State of the Union

Who all watched it? How'd you rate Obama's speech and the GOP response?

Obama introduced a few um interesting things.

9 dollar minimum wage? Eh idk.

Gun control was beyond grabbing for straws

Was glad to hear he wants his immigration reform to include illegals be put in the back of the line of citizenship.

Also only in 2013 America do people give a standing and longer ovation to a black lady impersonating heath ledger's lip licking for voting over a police officer getting shot 12 times and a nurse who saved 20 newborns in a hurricane

That's because they know they'd be called racist if they didn't.

My aunt lived until 107 and she wasn't invited to a state of the union, but then again she wasn't black either.

What adversity have white people faced in the last American century? I assure you, the right to vote means a great deal more to her than most because of the times she has lived through. I can't bring myself to believe that her getting too much recognition is a serious critique of the SOTU address.

I was very surprised to hear a proposal to increase the minimum wage to around $9/hr. This is where I think it should be, but I didn't expect to tackle this until 2016. Interesting..

And I thought his part on gun control was pretty good really. He put the main focus on bringing the issue to a vote. I agree with that sentiment. I like the voting process.

Ever heard of women's suffrage? It applied to white women as well. Learn some history.

White women never had the hatred and animosity that black people had. She is both, and went to pretty far lengths to ensure her ballot be counted. She was denied the right to vote due to two eras of discrimination throughout her life. Your aunt doesn't have **** on her.

Again though, this is a ridiculous critique of the address, so I don't know why I'm still letting you troll me into continuing..

First global warming caused the asteroid, now it caused superstorm sandy. I wonder what it will cause next. Hopefully obama's impeachment.

Except rising temperatures putting more energy into the planets weather system causing more violent storm systems is ironclad science?

Voting... on an amendment?

A minimum wage's main purpose seems to be to drive the prices of food and goods up. Especially when it is tied to inflation ($9).

And to nit-pick about adversity "white" people have faced from 1900-2000, let me go ask some friends with Irish, Italian, etc immigrant grandparents.

El Niño–Southern Oscillation climate pattern phenomenon? Are phenomenons part of that "iron clad science"?

I'm not a fan of raising the minimum wage, simply because I believe it's ineffective. Companies will either push prices up or fire people and make their employees burden the load.

I have never seen or heard a single SotU in my life. Wasn't about to start now.

Yes, the El Nino effective has been consistently stronger in conjunction with rising global temperatures.

Come on, there's still wiggle room to debate man's effect on global warming and whether we can do much about it, but the fact that temps are rising and its causing more extreme weather is well established by hard data.

Improve productivity and you don't need additional workers.

Over a police officer getting shot 12 times to save lives and a nurse who pushed back her own needs to protect 20 people's newborns during a hurricane? Give me a ****in break.

Everyones grandparents went through alot of ****, just because you're black doesn't mean you should get special treatment.

At 102, you've lived through a lot of definitions of what it means to be black and a woman. I have no qualms with this choice.

His part on gun control was pure emotion. Bringing in that girls parents and a Sandy Hook teacher. Using them as pawns for his agenda. All his other points in his speech had decent facts with them. The only thing close to "facts" he said was something like, "since Sandy hook, 200 birthdays blah blah blah wont be had because of gun violence."

Mr. President, how many of those deaths were those "weapons of war" (he actually said that term, lol)?

How many of those deaths were suicides?

How many of those deaths were in heavily Democrat cities with heavy gun control laws?

It's already known it wouldn't even pass the dem controlled senate, it would be political suicide for those who voted for it that don't live NY, CA, or IL. Plus it's stupid that they're waiting this long to take a vote, Sandy Hook is just fading more and more each day in peoples minds and support for his anti-constitutional agenda is dwendling.

What has she done as a person to help others or society as a whole that deserves more recognition than his two other guests who put themselves in harms way to save others, actual heros? Why should ones skin color gain more respect than another persons character and actions?
