Tuning a DM11 Questions

My DM11 came to me very loud and doesn't seem like it was tuned properly.

Can you tune a DM without a chrono?

How many turns out should the lpr be and what should my dwell be? I wan't to get a quiet shot with minimal kick like I used to have on my dm5 back in 2005, its just been so long I can't remember how to tune it correctly. My DM11 has the stock bolt btw.

It's possible without a chrono but it wont be perfect...

dwell 21

LPR 3- 3 1/4th turns

HPR 4 1/4 turns

This, if you live somewhere warm you can even possibly get away with less lpr turns. Look into getting your bolt pooty polished, which will make your dm even smoother for a very reasonable price.

If the DM is loud at a desired velocity, it's probably because your paint is a loose fit for your bore size.

Ok, so turn my lpr and hpr all the way in then turn it out to those specifications?

the paint is 3 years old I'd have to check if it fits, forgot about that.

Is it safer to A) turn the LPR all the way in and then back it out to the desired setting when degassed, or B) turn it all the way in, gas it up and then slowly back it out to the desired setting?

I tune DM's all the time without a chrono. If you turn your LPR all the way in until you feel the reg seat (don't over tighten you could damage that reg seat) and turn on the air flow from your tank you will notice the bolt wont cycle. back the LPR out a little at a time while pulling the trigger until the bolt starts to cycle. Once it starts to cycle try to shoot the marker as fast as you can, if you hear variance in the sound comming from each shot or the bolt not moving at full speed back the LPR out another 1/4 turn. Repeat until you can shoot at full speed with the marker cycling correctly. Your pretty much there, after that I tune it with my finger in the breach to make sure the shot is soft enough for my liking. If the marker is still really loud your HPR is probably set to high and will need to be turned down when you do have a chrono. Paint size in my experience has not had a huge impact on my sound signature.

I was really nervous turning my lpr all the way in, the last few turns were pretty hard to turn and I was scared I was going to brake something but then it bottomed out. I turned it out a few turns and it seems good. Still got a little more work to do though.
