Will a canon t3 keep up?

Is the Canon t3 considered a Professional Camera?
Will a Canon t3 keep up with the 70-200 f2.8?

Thanks guys.

No, it's not a professional camera. What do you mean by keep up?

Will the lens preform well on the t3 body, or has my t3 matched it's capability with the f4 70-200 L?
Also does my camera have the ability to focus as fast as the USM will allow?

With still subjects, it will work fine.

Moving subjects, however, will begin to test its limits. The Rebel line is the bottom of the barrel where Canon's AF systems are concerned. The T3 has only one cross-type AF point at the center, while a professional grade body will have dozens. It also lacks the larger AF sensor area and aggressive predictive autofocus processing found in higher-end bodies.

Well let's talk about moving subject.

If and when the camera focuses, will the image captured be as fine as the lens will allow?
Or will the lack of AF cause most moving subject to blur and be less fine than if I was using a professional body?

It will likely miss focus--if only slightly--quite often, which means there may be a lot of shots which appear soft compared to those with proper focus. A professional body would be expected to do this far less often, so that the user can select based on subject matter and composition rather than be constrained by a poor in-focus rate.

No the auto focus will not be as good as a professional body, that's why it's a professional body. The af tracking will be fine. I used my xsi for years and still snapped plenty of sharp images.

Which is a better setup for action shots?

60D w/ 70-200 f4 L
OR
T3 w/ 70-200 f2.8 L

If you want the best AF available in an APS-C format, get a 7D.

the 60D with a 70-200 4.0.. Which I happen to be selling both

but yea, the 60D has more cross type focusing points, it's still not the most accurate body on the planet when it comes to auto focus though. you're probably fine with a rebel body, but on a lens like the 70-200, only pro bodies will make full use of how fast the AF is. After shooting on pro bodies, and on xxD bodies/rebel bodies, I do notice a difference, however, I feel that I'm capable of taking a decent image with a rebel body, so I don't believe it's the gear that will make or break the shot.

All in all, you're fine for right now with the t3/t3i or what ever rebel body you're looking to get. If you don't plan on doing any video, the 70-200 2.8 is a great lens to own, and will be great for when you do decide to upgrade to maybe a 7D, or a pro body.

I shot sports with my T2i and 70-200 f2.8 before upgrading bodies. All that happens is that you will shoot a burst and see that some of the images, the camera just missed the focus. That being said, I still got enough sharp shots to satisfy myself and my editors.

Chances are, if you can't get the shot with a T3, you probably can't get it with a 1D either. Less of the gear, more of the user.

I have a T3 as a back up to my 40D it's not a bad camera. It's never let me down.

I shoot with a T3 and the 55-250mm when I shoot paintball mainly because I can't afford more. It gets the job done at times but after just a little bit you'll definitely start to notice that it's AF is a little too slow

Examples

In the second one you can see it definitely missed focus and the player was only about 20-30 feet away and not moving too quickly.

Only way to prevent it is to pre-focus and stay on them, adjusting the focus as you go.
