This feels like the most appropriate place to ask this question.

I apologize if this isn't the right place to ask (I didn't see a "Health" forum).

So on the 11th of January, I had my gallbladder taken out. It was laparoscopic, so just 3 little holes and one larger one in my belly button. As far as I know, there's no STRICT limit on time you must wait to resume phyiscal activity, but I REALLY want to paintball this weekend.

Last Friday a doctor I went to for the post-op (not the surgeon or my normal doctor, I guess it was my surgeon's assistant) said maybe wait another 2 weeks before doing any heavy lifting. I asked about playing paintball, and she said it might hurt a little more to get hit on one of the incision spots, but it shouldn't affect anything.

So with that said, it's not super clear on what I can and can't do. I don't feel pain from it any more, and haven't for a week and a half. It's amazing, I've heard of some people being in pain for a little while then running a marathon a day or two later, and I've heard of some people being useless for a month.

Have any of you had to deal with this? What are your recommendations? I've never had any sort of surgery before this, so I don't know what to expect out of my body.

no one here is a surgeon, nor will anyone advise you to go against your doctors rec.

I understand, but she didn't give me any concrete answer, which is why I'm not sure. If she said "No, don't play until this date" I'd listen. She just said "it might hurt a little more". And as for heavy lifting, that's a different kind of straining so I understand not to do that for another week or so.

I'm mainly interested in whether or not people here have had the surgery and its effect on their paintball playing.

Is playing paintball really worth the possible serious risk?

And for the record, no one here plays paintball.

Really? O_o

And I see your point, it's not worth it. I'll do some exercises and run around a bit, see how I feel. I won't be diving or anything.

Do you experience pain when jogging or running? Have you run the full course of your antibiotics or pain meds? If so, you're probably fine. Scoped gallbladder surgery heals extremely fast.

I decided not to go. I'll wait another week. Next Saturday I'm going to a little recball place, should be a nice intro back after not playing for a month and a half.
