Neal - it's all good, but we missed you!
We ended up an outstanding 24th of 28 teams!
I'll give a quick rundown.
Round 1, game 1, we NEVER heard the game on. The only way myself and Jorden knew the game started, was we saw the other team running. Wow. Ah well. The rest of the games in round 1, we just played bad. We do always seem to take a while to get going though.
Round 2, game 1, we decided to have myself and Bjorn just go balls out into the center 50. If we survived, we figured we had excellent position for a quick kill or two. If we didn't we hoped to take fire. We both slid in at the same time, bumped into each other, and both got shot out in about .003 seconds! We both turned to go away, and we hear K2. Libonati, James, and Jordan just picked them apart. Before we got into the dead box it was game over, win 1!
Game 2, Jordan played a beautiful dorito side, and bunkered/traded with someone in a good spot. Someone filled that dorito then, and I cleaned them out. I ended up running down the field, had a little battle with someone, got him, and ran the flag.
Game 3, I never made it to my bunker, we tried something with Jordan and me, and I got lit up. We all got tagged out from being sloppy, but not before leaving James with a 1 on 1. They snapped each other out, and the game was a tie. You can see the experience and skill in James' playing style when he is in a 1v1. I want to practice some snapping with him for sure.
Game 4, I forget what happened, but we won it.
Round 3 - we just started petering out I think. Bad game 1, 8 minute break, then bad game two, then one game break, then back on the field, and right into another game. We were not prepared for that last one at all.
On the last game, I got shot by friendly fire right on the break. Right in the butt. I felt the hit, and when I ended up sliding in, I looked down, and felt where I felt the hit. I could not see anything, and I felt nothing. Just as I looked up, someone slid into D2, and I pulled up and started tossing paint. Well, a ref came over, pulled me, and threw a most awesome penalty on us. Not sure, but I think it was a 3 for 1 penalty for playing on. I did legitimately check, but looking back on it, I think from me being crouched, my pants and pod pack moved enough, that the pod pack covered up what I could see, and the pants moved enough to make the area I checked (from the pain!), not where the paint was.
We did learn a lot, and there is much to work on, as it was a rough day. Again, as long as we work on it, and learn from our mistakes in the coming weeks, we'l be fine.
Mike - thanks! It was good to get out there again in a real competitive format. We see you guys pulled out another solid event! Lamarque stopped by and was chatting with Ryan and Kristin for a while.
