Anyone really. Companies want serious, legit teams though. If you're not dedicated, don't apply.

Typically, early sponsorships come from your local field, but remember that it's not about you getting something free or at a big discount to the field owner. They have to be getting something in return.

Most companies wont "paint" sponsor many beginner teams, as saying paint for free/ for practice, they mostly sponsors the semi pro teams and pro teams. You can however get sponsors from ANSgear.com, Hustlepaintball.com, Zephyrpaintball.com, etc, etc. And they will give you (varies from company) 10-25% off of all products. Including the paint on the website. Hope this helps

Offer to ref for free and clean up on weekends at your local field if your local field will allow you practice and BYOP for practice during the week. Then you can buy $40 a case or less paint from the outside and play for free with your team.

You might have to put in much more time than you planned for, but you have to be a team partner with a field owner in order to get any benefit.

this.

many of the fields locally will cover teams entry if they set up, maintain, wash and tear down the fields

offering your labor in trade is much better than just askin for free stuff

Talk to your local shop. See if they will give the team a discount on paint in the team buys a certain number of cases per week for practice. Have the team pool paint so everyone pays the same price. Try to develop a strong relationship with your local shop. As the team improves, the shop will extend more benefits and deals to you.

At your level, you will net a greater savings (dollars per hour) by working a real job and paying normal/lightly discounted prices.

For example, if you're offered a deal where you can ref Saturday and play free Sunday, let's do the math if you ref 8 hours.

Working real job (8 hours)

At $7/hour: $56
At $8/hour: $64
At $9/hour: $72
At $10/hour: $80
At $11/hour: $88
At $12/hour: $96

If you get paid $8/hour at your real job, this means that the field needs to give you at least $64 off your cost of playing for reffing to be worth your time. In other words, if entry, air, and a case of paint cost less than what you'd make based on the above chart, you're wasting your time. The best part about paying instead of reffing is that you aren't responsible for any of the field maintenance or setup. There's nothing wrong with helping out, but remember that once you commit to reffing, you have to do it no matter how tired or busy you are.
