Etek 3 HPR disassembly
I've been trying to take my HPR apart, so I can do some maintenance. But I can't. I've tried to twist the darn thing into it's two pieces and it just won't budge. Does anyone have any insights or advice on how to open it?

You can get some monster Allen keys...put one in the top of the reg and screw the velocity adjuster all the way in and put a larger Allen in there and gently twist the reg body apart.

Turn in your velocity adjustment screw in all the way. This will allow you to use two allen keys to separate the regulator.
Most times the macroline fitting is screwed in far enough that keeps it from coming off. Try unscrewing it a little if you have trouble take the little collar with the fitting off.

In some cases I have seen where people had to nearly completely remove the macro fitting. I don't know if this is the case but worth a try. All else fails you can use two allens to separate the halves.

Make sure to completely clean and lube ALL o-rings. Not too much on the piston, sometimes this causes velocity issues. What I would do is totally remove the o-ring that seals the join between HPR and Etek body, either replace or thoroughly clean and grease that o-ring. Also clean where the o-ring goes and your HPR mount threads on the inside of the body. This should prevent further seizing. Make sure not to tighten the HPR onto the body too much. If your anything like me I have a habit of rolling whatever wrist is holding the HPR during firing further tightening the HPR and me not even realizing it.
