There is always the option of using a 3rd party too. That is when 2 people involved in a trade/sale use a 3rd person to make sure everything is legit. Usually both parties will send their item/payment to this 3rd party, he/she verifies everything is as described, then forwards everything to where it is supposed to go. If a problem arises the 3rd party either holds everything until the situation is corrected, or just returns whatever was sent. Most people that offer 3rd party services are very trustworthy with great feedback. Some are even mods. There is usually a small fee involved.

If you really were going to get screwed over, like I have in the past, paypal will do very little to help you out. Do your homework on who your buying from... take a look at their feedback and recent posts/threads made to make sure they have never posted about the gun having issues.

Fees are 3.4% plus $.50 for the transaction. I never gift! If you offer to pay the fees then they are not charged for them= no difference to the seller. If they insist of gifting or money order tell them NO because you have ZERO way to get your money back if it is a scam!

Feedback is one of the most valuable tools on Nation. Positive is the only good one. Neutral or negative are not. Neutral IMO means the trade/sale had problems but not to level of negative. I will not tell you to avoid any negative or neutral feedback but look at the time frame. If it is old probably just a hiccup everybody has off days and lets face it the Post Office does suck. If recent ask what happened? Read through their feedback as to what type of items where sold/ bought/ traded. Did they buy several high dollar marker or a couple of $20 ASA for most of their Feedback. Look at their join date and recent feedback. Use me for example recent join and lots of recent feedback. Someone has to wonder why someone joined 4 years ago and have only 2 positive feedback? Accounts do go inactive as people quit paintball and those accounts can get hacked or used without the intended user knowing especially if they are not on PBnation that often. Lastly do a search for that user name search for buyer or seller. You can gain valuable info that way. How do they treat other members, are they jerks/ nice, do they answer questions, etc?

I have had a deal go sour and PayPal was very helpful with getting me my money back. I have no idea what happened in your case so I can not comment on that. Most of the time if you have saved emails and receipts and you are in the right, they will help you.

When I sell a gun I always make a boxing video that includes the gun being aired up and shooting before its put in the box. When I buy a gun I always make an unboxing video. It is worth the extra 5 mins of your time. The more you put into it the more you can cover your butt when something goes wrong.

I had forgotten about 3rd party services. This may be your best bet until you build up some feedback. It can also be beneficial if you are buying a gun you aren't familiar with. Most people who offer the 3rd party service know just about every gun and what to look for, good and bad. I can't tell you how many times I have herd of someone buying a "geo+" and end up finding out it's just a geo with normal internals. Or people claim they have all the updated v2 or v3 parts on a gun when really they don't.

You can find 3rd party services here.

If someone takes a gifted payment paid with a cc or debitcard they get NO help if the buyer reverts the payment through his bank.

Gifting is a double edged sword.

Use a third party for your transactions. That way the buyer and seller are both protected.

I also suggest requiring a signature confirmation for any deal over $250. Ebay does this and it is good protection for the seller/trader.

DO NOT GIFT.

As a seller, I either have the customer split the fees or eat them. That's what any legitimate seller will have you do

Just reading other people's posts about gifting and the theft report section, I think I will just eat the fees. Im not scared of paying a little bit more money if it means getting my 500-800 dollars back if i get ripped off.

I usually eat the fees unless the seller will. It happened to me, on a smaller scale. And the guy is a NYC cop of all ppl. He had been around forever, had 150+/0/0 feedback. Then he shafted the last 3 buyers. Didn't ship a noid forever then when he did just threw it in a normal paper envelope and guess what I got...... empty torn envelope.... I ain't to smart but I learnt my lesson...

It also lights a fire under the sellers tush if they are dragging their feet getting you the stuff when you open a claim and PP locks up the funds. I've had to do that a couple times....

If you find a reputable seller and use Paypal the right way, the odds of things going bad are very slim. Don't be scared to deal on PbNation. It should be fun. Just cover your bottom.

If I'm not mistaken asking for money to be gifted or asking you to pay the fees is actually against the ToS of paypal. When a seller sets their price they should include paypal fees so they don't have to ask for them. This would make things easier and safer for all parties.

^Rarely happens around here bro. But, technically the seller does pay the fees but just increases their sale prior to collecting the funds to cover it. It really just ends up being a haggling chip so some kid can feel that he saved $2 on the transaction.

It would be awesome, if it was as simple as that.
