Why wouldnt top gun enter the challengers bracket? They won the series and cup. Their third season in D1? Why not go pro? This was created so teams just like top gun can get experience against pros instead of being smashed as the new team.

This season there will be the 14 pro teams from World Cup plus Ton Tons. I would assume Topgun, Texas Storm, and RNT Allstars will be invited to the challengers division because they took top 3 last season (so that would mean a total of 17 teams in the pro division at Dallas)
But here is what I still dont get?
Teams/players from last year that have been ranked up to "semi pro" because of APPA points, will they have to go into the challengers division? They cant play D1 if the whole team is ranked semi-pro
Also can any D1 team that wins an event, be invited to the challengers division the next event? I dont think this is true because it would dramatically effect their season d1 rankings.

The 2012 rulebook provided that any number of semi-pro players could appear on a D1 roster (2.2.2.1). My assumption would be that isn't changing, and the Pro division (champions and challengers) is still invite-only.

I think you are missing his point. Yes a Semi-pro player can appear on a d1 roster. He is saying that what if the whole/Majority of the team is ranked semi-pro. Does this mean that those teams will get an invite to the challengers division? What if they decline due to finances are they then SOL?

Any number of Semi-pro players can play on a D1 team as the rulebook is currently written. Therefore if you decline the invite to the challengers, you can still play D1 so long as your players aren't all ranked pro.

Agreed, paintsprayerrr. PSP hasn't released details (and I wouldn't be surprised if the full criteria would ever be released) on how a team would receive an invite to play in the pro bracket (challengers portion of it). My assumption (again emphasizing assumption) is that if a D1 team declined to play in the challengers division, that they are still allowed to play D1, per last year's rulebook. Put another way, I don't think the point of champions/challengers is to force players up into playing Pro, but providing a path for teams who choose to play Pro to do so without getting stomped on from day 1.

I get what you are saying and the thought of it is good. Alot of teams have been afraid to make the jump to pro because they dont want to go 0-4 at every event for the first year then their second year only winning 3-4 matches all year. That's alot of money to be spending to not win as they are accustomed to doing. I am not a huge fan of this idea but I do appreciate the PSP is trying to provide a better quality product to us and for that I will wait and see what becomes of this.
Real talk tho LTZ had some sick jerseys

If a team gets invited, it's an oppurtunity to shine. I also can see more sponsorships and opportunities to players/teams consistently in and playing well in the challengers league. And getting a Champions slot everyonce in a while. If a team doesn't get this, they should consider taking a marketing class.
As far as how the pros will be affected, i'm looking forward to seeing what happens when a top level team has a bad tourny, which happens, and has to step down. I mean the Damages, Heats, RLs, Ironmen, Dynasty, etc.

I am assuming Challengers division play will count towards your APPA ranking points as Semi-Pro play, not professional play?
