The Challengers division will be the Pro's who don't make the cut, and other teams "who will be named at a later date"...
Does the current Pro Division mean the teams that played World Cup or that played the whole series?
That will change things significantly.
If the other teams are teams like XSV, Impact, Ton Ton's etc. Then if they play for the first event as Pro, or in the second event as Challenger for the change to move to Champion... will be a big question.
Where are they left playing in the first event if they are not part of the current "Pro" group. Do they sit the first event and just play the second one on?

Dallas will be one Pro division of the Pro teams from Cup last year plus TonTons. Top 10 become the Champions division at Dallas, remainder enter the Challengers division.
Challengers division to be filled out by invitation from PSP. I would guess that if you want to get into the Challengers division for the 2nd event, a good place to start would be playing D1 at Dallas. If I were a team interested in playing PSP Pro this year, I would also not do anything based on a guess and contact PSP to find out more details.

This kind of sort of reminds me of European soccer but condensed into individual tournaments. I like the concept and believe that it will push teams to work harder. What I would like to see from the sponsors is contracts that state "if you stay in the Champions league, you get $XXX bonus, etc." With that, I would also like to see a transfer window implemented. Again, the only sport I watch outside of paintball is Euro soccer, so with that said when the season ends, the transfer window opens. When the season starts, the window closes. Teams can no longer sign/field new players until the transfer window opens again (maybe mid-season?). This keeps players from jumping ship when they please and makes teams/players consider the dedication it takes when living on the east coast and playing for a west coast team, etc.

I think this is a brilliant move to help boost quality competition and weed out the teams that just aren't making the cut and making it easy for other teams to basically boost high point margins in many cases without a real challenge. PSP

didnt go through all of the thread but, its funny how short our memory is sometimes in this sport.
i believe after the 05 or 06 season xsv and avalanche were both relegated to d1 in the psp. i believe they played the first two events and then made the switch to nppl exclusively after that.

Relegated to D1 because they couldn't hack it in the pros, then jumping ship to the minors aka NPPL? Interesting.

I don't know anything about Avalanche but the XSV part is not true. XSV Won PSP Chicago in 2006. After the 2007 season many members of the team left and they rebuilt it using local talent for the 2008 season of NPPL. In 2009 they played NPPL pro and PSP Semi-Pro (Vicious Rivalry). After the pro 2010 season they went back to NPPL only in pro for 2011 and 2012, except for playing world cup 2012.
Was no relegation.

No. Do NOT turn this into the same battle on that other thread not to be mentioned on pain of death.

It's hard to have a memory long enough to remember something that never happened.

PSP has never relegated anyone.
regarding these two teams specifically, XSV played Open XBall in 2005 and the full seasons of Pro XBall in 2006 and 2007.
Avalanche played Open XBall in 2005 and NPPL in 2006.
Neither team played one or two events of a season then quit. In fact no team dropped out mid-season from 2005 through to Cup in 2007, where Legacy and LTZ folded completely.

just curious but will the challengers div be different than d1?
what teams other than the "under 10th place" pro teams will be in the challenger's div? maybe some of the top d1 teams? T1 topgun etc. ?

I can't believe they make changes like these without at least talking to the teams.

I don't think he had any foreknowledge of it. His entire post reads like his reaction to the PSP's news from this morning.

Then they'll probably have to pad the Challenger division with more invited D1/Millennium/NPPL teams to join the demoted teams after the first event.

I like the concept, interested to see how it plays out and see what teams fill the challenger division! I am sad that I won't get to see some of the teams in the webcast, though. Even though 'Shock and 187 didn't win a lot, watching them try to win were some of the best games on the webcast.
I love the webcast and hope it gets popular enough that there are two and then we can have something like the 'double-box' view that NFL Redzone does.

So it's like a tournament within a tournament. I actually love this idea, and I have to think all these off season erratic moves were a sign that most of the pro/d1 teams knew about this.

To the ones saying we could see a top team get knocked down, that just means they can't give up even if they are definitely not making sunday. Every point counts and you will see the top teams giving everything they have not to be relegated.

Not entirely, they will still be pro, but might not make it to the champions league. If they end up in the challenger league they will not make the webcast or play on the main pro field.
I wrote something up on page 5, post is here;
Quote:
This is an expansion of the existing pro division, and not a new division. The top 10 teams play on Center Court (Champions League) and are on the webcast. The rest of the pro division (Challengers) get their own field of play with the two finalist teams making it to the Center Court/Champions League the following event. The bottom two Champions League teams move down to the secondary pro field, in the challenger division at the next event.
As long as they lock rosters so that you may only play on 1 pro roster per season unless that pro team dies entirely I think this is a great idea.
Also, I just want to point out, what if you are a top 8 pro team on the bubble, what is to stop them from throwing event 3, knowing they have a better chance at making the final 2 at even 4 and thus playing WC on center court? I think season points need to be tallied at the end of the first 4 events and that determines who's on center court for Cup.
I assume that the points will work something like this;
Team 1 - 100 points for winning the event
Team 2 - 98 points for 2nd place
Team 3 - 96 points for 3rd
Team 4 - 94 points for 4th
Team 5 - 92 points for 5th
Team 6 - 90 points for 6th
Team 7 - 88 points for 7th
Team 8 - 86 points for 8th
Team 9 - 84 points for 9th and demoted to challenger
Team 10 - 82 points for 10th and demoted to challenger
Team 11 - 80 points for 1st in challenger, 11th overall and promoted to Champions League
Team 12 - 78 points for 2nd in challenger, 12th overall and promoted to Champions League
Team 13 - 76 points for 3rd in challenger, 13th overall stays and in challenger
Team 14 - 74 points for 4th in challenger, 14th overall stays and in challenger
Team 15 - 72 points for 5th in challenger, 15th overall and stays in challenger
Team 16 - 70 points for 6th in challenger, 16th overall and stays in challenger

I would guess they break it into 3 groups of 5 and take the top 2 from each...but that is just a guess.
Either way I think this is a good idea and cannot wait to see all of the team compete this year. It'll be really interesting to see if any top teams slip-up and get brought down. As we have seen from the past anything is possible at these events.
