Potential Plot Twist:

Just to add a new level of excitement, it looks like starting with the second event the bottom 4 teams in the Champions division will have a playoff on Sunday to determine who gets relegated the next event!

That would mean the team that comes in 4th in the first bracket will play the team who came in 5th (last) in the other bracket. And the team who came in 4th in the second bracket will play the team who came in last in the first division. The winners of those games would stay in the Champions bracket and the losers would be relegated to the Challenger bracket.

If this happens, this gives teams one last game to turn it around and prove they belong in the Champions division.

Is it bad that I care more about these games then about who wins the event?

I think they'll be all sorts of exciting.

That also means that if they take 6 teams to Sunday, all the teams in the Champions league will get Sunday game time.

If i were a pro, I'd love this.

Then again, I'm not a pro.

I'm sure some of them are aprehensive because they have worked very hard to earn the title of pro. They don't want anyone taking that away from them. unfortunately, not everyone can be a pro, so someone has to lose.

Like someone said before. Life isn't always fair.

I like the idea, I think it keeps things interesting the entire season, not just for key events like WC.

Heres how I see things.

I dont think the winner in D1 at Dallas will be moved to challengers division the next event. Lane specifically said "Invited teams" to the pro division the first event. So that means that at Dallas the Pro division will operate like last years pro division with top 10 teams keep thier spots in the champion division, and all other teams move down to Challengers at event 2. D1 teams at texas and the rest of the season will be not be allowed to enter the challengers division at any point (atleast thats how I think it will operate). The teams that are invited to Pro division for texas will probably be the top 3 series placers of last years D1 (Topgun, Storm, RNT). The pro division (both challengers and champions) will be locked in by the teams that entered the pro division at the start of texas. New teams will be invited next year based on placement within d1.

In the grand scheme of things, I dont see Texas as being a qualifier for the D1 teams to enter the challengers bracket for the remaining of the season. Its possible dont get me wrong, but I did not see anything like that posted in the initial announcement. If this was true, then it would have been mentioned.

With the 14 teams from cup, plus Ton Tons, and the introduction of the top 2 or 3 teams from last seasons D1. That would mean there will be 17-18 teams in the pro division at Texas. The second event will have 10 in champions, and 7-8 in the challengers. The bottom 2 teams in challengers will not be ranked down to d1, as they will stay. The bottom 2 teams in champions will move down, and the top 2 in challengers will move to champions for the next event. I could see season points in pro, only being awarded to teams that are in champions division for that specific event. However its possible that PSP will award points to all teams in both pro division with the winner of challengers getting less points than the bottom team in champions.

The Challenger division won't exist for Texas and it will need more than 5 teams. I can't see how TopGun and some other top D1 teams will be allowed to continue playing in D1 once the Challenger division exists.

And TopGun has already said they wanted to go Pro. Here's their chance to prove they deserve it.

lolwut?

I'm assuming by "division" you mean bracket, as this only applies to the Champions division?

That is what I said. And with a total of 17-18 teams in the pro division at cup, that means the bottom 7-8 will be moved to challengers for the 2nd event to try to win a spot in champions next event.

And I agree, I really want to see Topgun out of D1.

I thought there were 14 Pro teams at Cup + TonTons. That makes 15 teams.

Ton Tons didnt play Cup. But youre right there will be the normal 15 Pro teams at Texas, and Im assuming Topgun, RNT, and Storm, will be invited to play pro at Texas. So that means at Texas there will be a total of 18 teams in the pro division. Which means the bottom 8 teams will be moved to Pro challengers division the 2nd event.

I didn't say the TonTons played Cup. I said 14 other teams did and when you add the TonTons, that makes 15.

And I think there's a chance we'll see some additional NPPL or Millennium teams get involved since it won't be such a brutal entry into the PSP Pro division as in years past.

Dear John,

So you are saying in Texas, 15 go in, 10 stay, 5 go out. No playoff between teams 7-10. No challenger field.

Event #2- 5 former champion pros are now in challengers plus 5 new "invited" teams play challenger. After event 2-the bottom in the champions division will go to challengers and top 2 in challengers will go to champions for event 3.

Playoff time for teams 7-10 in champions to see who becomes a challenger.

My wish is that this type of Challeger/Championship Divisions and relagation would go all the way to Div 2.

In Theory

D2 Champ could then move to Challenger Division of D1, Win Challenger in D1 Move up to Championship Div of D-1. Win D-1 Championship Move up to Pro Challenger Div.....and so on.

Now that would be exciting to see. Nobody would be safe and yet nobody would be held back (I don't agree with invite only). It would also give lower division teams HEART to take on the Challenge cause we all know the prize pkges is well what it is and it aint much. The prize would be the glory of moving up....

Also as to a lock on players. All Players should be locked into their relgated Division until they earn their way out of that division either with the team that got them there or another team in that Division.

Plus any teams that might be invited from the other league....would not have a chance to get to champions league until event #3 if they are top 2 in event #2.

I think the goal was 20 total teams, 10 and 10. It can be anything. You know it has to be 5.

Lane/Chris/Tom:

So if we have 15 teams, are you taking 6 to the next round?

Once we get to the relegation events, with 10 teams in the Champions division, how many teams are you taking on to the next round from this? 6? But you've never taken more than 50% of the field before, so do you only take the top 4 on?

Thanks.
