Leroy did you go to private high school, middle school, and elementary school? And isn't Texas Tech a state school? I await the pathetic argument that follows.

Dear Students, I'm very sick with the flu so I have to cancel our exam today. Instead, I will put it on Blackboard so that everyone can take the exam this week. The format will change to 20 multiple choice questions worth 5 points each.
win.

I went to public school but it was predominately white upper middle class kids. Those kids will do fine no matter the funding. What I'm referring to when I talk about public schools is the at risk ones. Most of those kids have no hope in life the moment they're born so why waste resources on them when you will end up with the same result.
Yeah tech is public, but college is a different story. Most people will do alright with a degree from anywhere (unless Obama gets his way and allows everyone to attend college free of charge)
Cuban actually wrote a blog about this today discussing colleges potentially going out of business

I mean its funny that Leroy says "no one cares where you did your undergrad," and many other people will share that opinion. So if that's the case who in the actual **** would care where you went to high school? The only possible argument for that is that going to a better high school will help you get in to a better college, but if that is the case, if you don't go to a top 5 school you fail because everywhere else is quite doable at a public school. Or if your public school is filled with gangs or some ****. In which case, move.

A&m kicks our *** at being ugly anti social dog worshipping cult weirdos. I don't have a problem with ut and yeah they usually pwn us in everything.
Texas constitution puts tech (and everyone who isn't a&m or ut) at a disadvantage because of the PUF fund. That's billions of dollars only a&m and ut see.

Pete do you know anything about inner city schools? The few who want to learn are berated and made fun of constantly. I'm saying take those few and let them attend a school without all of that, and let the rest of those degenerates continue to be a burden on society. At least we get some entertaining sports out of it I guess.

UT is extremely under achieving when you realize the resources that school has.

I think they already have such programs. The teachers unions destroy any hope of the American public school system to be good. Their solution to everything is keep giving us more and more money and we'll keep delivering mediocre results. They claim that more money will equal better teachers, but not when at every turn they oppose merit based pay, oppose measuring results or establishing standards, oppose the firing of terrible teachers. So how are you going to hire new, good teachers, at any salary level, when you can't get rid of the old ones?
A lot of the inner city schools also have tons of money thrown at them and still suck. Its a cultural thing. Students with supportive families who encourage and demand success in school are going to do better than students whose parents don't give a ****.

I'm with you about the unions for teachers doing way more harm than good, Pete. I will say that I understand the opposition to merit based pay for teachers working in a lot of urban areas. You can be the best teacher in the world and have all your students do horribly in class. The average kid from Red Hook doesn't give a ****. Like you said, it's a cultural thing for them. Those kids area worthless in an academic setting so no matter how good the teacher is, they won't succeed when everything else tells them it doesn't matter.
All in all, I support compensation based on performance but with some inner city schools it is a lost cause.
