Why do people think Texas is like the most pro-gun, least taxed state? Why do you assume a state would go bankrupt with no taxes? How come the state closest to being bankrupt has some of the highest taxes? Pro-tip - low taxes do not bankrupt a state, out of control spending does. PS the next time companies flee an area because taxes are too low will be the first. That post was full of so much fail.

They do have a low tax rate and a high gun ownership rate.

Florida's not in the lowest 10 for taxes but we damn sure have a lot of guns. You have to remember that while we have over 1 million CCW's we also have a lot of you yankees who oppose guns like the plague.

Florida seems about as pro gun as any state.
PS - according to this, Texas is the third highest taxed state per capita, which I do find very surprising.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_t..._United_States
NH down at #48. I need to move there.
edit - nevermind, read that table all wrong. Texas is pretty low, but only two spots lower than Florida and 3 below New Hampshire.

We're pro gun but below median for gun ownership.
That's money collected from taxes, not tax levels.

That's too bad. Hopefully they don't ruin it for everyone. Bunch of idiots.

Yes, see edit. I looked quickly at it and thought it was sorted per capita but then realized it was not.
What information are you looking at in regards to gun ownership? Curious to see. I would bet Utah is pretty damn high on that list, they seem like the most pro-gun state.

Texas and Florida have no state income tax which typically drops us way down.

Florida's a bit odd in that we're pro medicare, pro gun, anti education-ish but have decent institutions.

Quick google search but the list is surprising as Texas is median. Remember these are percentages as related to populations and keep in mind that Florida and Texas have about 45 million people.

Illinois 20% gun ownership. How high is it when they count all the illegal guns?
I was surprised to find out open carry is illegal in Texas. That is hardly how it is portrayed on TV/Movies. Also first time I went shooting we got some food/beer at Fridays after in NH. Friend was OCing. Not a single person batted an eye. I could only imagine the reaction in Mass. And this is not far over the state line.

Florida doesn't do exposed guns either. Where I grew up shotguns sat in plain sight in rear window racks. Down south guns freak people the **** out.

I believe open carry is actually legal in Mass the way the laws are written, but its generally accepted that you never ****ing do it unless you want a world of hurt brought on you.

Texas does most things right. A couple things I would change though is build a toll autobahn connecting Dallas Houston Austin San Antonio. They already somewhat started this but it still has an 85 mph speed limit.
Legalize marijuana, ban it from use in public.
Ban cigarettes from public.
No longer allow immigration of us citizens from outside states.
Completely disregard public education. You are not going to ever get through to those kids. Create a scholarship for the few that want to learn to attend private school.
