A1 rams

I know we have the rebuildable ram mod, but would anyone be interested in a new run of rams that would be rebuildable by design?

I'm toying with the idea of getting a run done, depending on interest.

I'm trying to figure out if I want to keep the design that uses the stock parts, which would be cheapest, or try to design something that is both serviceable, and an improvement over the original design.

The fact that you have a stainless steel pin in an aluminum body taking all of the reciprocal mass of the ram/hammer, is just not a reliable design....

Feel free to throw your thoughts out. Not really looking for profit by doing this, just looking to help my fellow angel owners out.

Interested....subded...ya would be a good idea if possible and maybe if you use a delrin hammer like people have in the past if that is cheaper and better in design....idk just throwing ideas out there....maybe Bob and Doc will chime in soon

That is a thought, as well as drilling out the ram shaft to reduce weight.

If anyone else has feedback or ideas, feel free to post up.

The plastic hammers are more wearable, I'd stick with the metal so you don't have to be servicing it as often.

In terms of using stock parts vs. completely new parts, there wouldn't be much advantage in keeping with the stock parts/design since they aren't serviceable and aren't available anymore anyway. So if you've got a better design, go to town.

I just mean by default. If you're gonna produce a new ram that's serviceable from the ground up, there's no real reason to stick with the stock parts design.

I'd be interested, especially for an improved rebuildable design.

The ram adjustment is going to be tricky.

Thinking of using a system similar to a bob long gear drive asa, but I'll have to see if I can fit it into that small of a space.

If I can get rid of the pin system, I will.

I'm also looking at making a larger diameter ram shaft to simplify the o-ring sizes used.

Throwing out thoughts

I'm thinking of making the shaft/hammer larger in diameter so that it can be one unit. I don't think having a removable hammer is much of a big deal, unless you really want nylon/delrin hammers. I could hollow it out to see if that helps as well to reduce the cycling mass.

I'm also keeping th goal in mind to reduce the amount of different sized o-rings. It's always easier to just have one size for as many applications as possible.

I was looking at this for the sake of simplicity, which usually means reliability.

I'll keep posting some ideas, and once I start really digging in, I'll get you guys some photos.

Don't hesitate to chime on on this. I'm not looking to cash in, just looking to extend the life of our angels. I'm thinking I should be able to make these for G7 series angels as well.

I would not spent too much on doing them for the G7, Bob and I have enough G7 rams to fill any needs for the foreseeable future.
