Uhh, no. Both companies plan to bring models out. Hell, the Subaru version will be a damn STi. STi is not Impreza specific, by the way.

Even then, the car is such a different car from the WRX/STi that you really cannot compare the two. The FRS is a Miata/S2000 type car, great for rallycross and, with enough power, for tight tracks (Laguna Seca?). The WRX/STi is an AWD powerhouse for the money that can keep up with more expensive cars around a track when driven well. It's great for off road driving and is an all around sports car to boot.

I meant autocross

Yes, small cars perform better in autocross, that being extremely tight courses, than your typical horrible weight distributed 4 door sports wagon.

Now, the rallycross we see on TV? That's a different story.

There are far too many informed people in this thread regarding the BRZ/FRS.....

And for the comment on the first page......The aftermarket for these cars is already enormous for it only being out for less than a year. The companies working with these cars are VERY dedicated.

For those power hungry people....Yes, 200 HP seems a bit shy, but there are already turbo kits out available for purchase. Subaru has already stated that they are in the works in creating a faster (NA) BRZ.

Here's an 11.3 second BRZ (back in SEPTEMBER)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBdFiFOWGms

And for the record.....This car was never meant to be a high HP car (stock)....The potential however is incredible.

Read up, read reviews, watch videos, browse ft86club...

Late on the train here, but figured I'd give my comments.

If you want a good autocross car straight from the lot, this will do the job. Pretty nice package overall.

I test drove one for about 30 minutes. I really wanted to like this car, but the thing is just gutless. It's fun to drive and easy to whip out the rear and easy to keep it going where you want it go. I thought the seats would be awesome, but they were hurting my lower back quite a bit, and I've never had back problems in any car seat I've been in.

I know the Rx 8 has been brought up a few times as an alternative. If you can't do much work on your car, this isn't the car for you. With the frs and brz, you're getting the reliability and simplicity of an Impreza. The rx8 has a rotary engine that just isn't very reliable and needs to be closely maintained. I know quite a few of them are susceptible to flooded engines if you don't let the car sit for long enough. It's just a real finicky car.

A turbo kit runs in the neighborhood of 9k, and I'm guessing a 3rd party turbo kit on a car not designed to run a turbo may compromise the reliability a bit. You'll also ruin your warranty.

If you say so

Almost a third of the price of the car plus it ruins your warranty.

I personally have not heard of a flooded rx8 engine in quite some time, but then again, I don't follow them that much. My father has one with 65k bought new in 04 that has been a champ. The original ecu allowed battery turn over at a lower voltage, which would cause flooding, we flooded it once, remove spark plug, turn over, replace spark plug and go.

They are a bit more maintenance heavy in the way that you have to add a bit of oil every 1k miles, and check it every other fill up. Most guys who are into the cars will "premix" their oil and add a bit at fill up depending on how much they put in the tank.

That being said, its the simplest engine out there, and there is really only 1 mode of failure, and that is the apex seal. If you pre mix, or just keep an eye on the oil, you can own one with no issues for years to come.
