Scuba Tank Noob

So I have found out that my nearest HPA station is about 45 mins away...

So... That leaves me with Co2 or get my own Scuba, which will last me longer..

Say I buy this tank from eBay, obviously I'll need a reg, which one and how much do they run?

Then do I need a special adapter or anything to fill my gun's tank with?

And how much will it cost to get that filled, and how long will it last me approx?

Ever thought about getting a shoebox compressor.

Can fill your tank and never needs a hydro like a scuba tank, doesn't need visual inpsection. scuba tanks can only do 3000psi, and everytime it fills a tank the psi gets lower, until the tank is dead.

shoebox can do 4500 fills

Yeah but they cost $500+... I'm not rich.. Maybe I will just have to stick with Co2 or just make the drive when I wanna play.

We do have one local field but they have only Co2, trying to talk them into buying a Shoebox or something..

Shoebox compressors take several hours to fill one tank. So it's not practical for field use at all. They'll need a bulk cascade scuba system or an actual compressor capable of doing 3000/4500 psi, since they would want to do a fill as quickly as they can and then get the customer out the door. But those compressors are extremely expensive up front and then there is maintenance costs to boot.

It depends on the OP needs.

Is this for every weekend play? backyard play? you got a team? just yourself or a bunch of buddies?

True.. I "think" one welding shop about 45 mins away does it, so I could have it filled there, BUT I play woodsball, and a tank would last me 2 weekends, and Idk how good/safe it is to leave my tank semi-filled for about two weeks at a time..

Na just personal use.

Got that local field I been playing at, really hate Co2, and wanna go HPA, but it's been a PITA today calling idiots at welding shops who take 30 mins to tell me no.

So it's either drive, or get scuba tanks, but scuba doesn't look so well since they only go up to 3k psi and such.

Perfectly safe. You just don't want to leave pressure in for extremely prolonged periods of time. It can warp the seals in the regulator.

Okay so if I get a 68/45, and shoot it one weekend, then leave about 3500psi out of the 4500psi max, for a week or two, then it will be safe?

I'll prolly just do that then. The 45 min drive ain't THAT bad, and I would much rather shoot clean air instead of nasty Co2 thru my rings and crap.

Yes, that's fine.
What marker are you using though? There may be other options out there for co2 usage.

I use 98 Customs for woodsball. I know I "could" get an E-chamber, but gosh.. I hate Co2 man.

Tippmanns were kind of meant to take co2 though. So I wouldn't be fearful of putting co2 through that marker. You could get some Anti-Syphon kits for your tanks so your tippmann would be more consistent if that's what you're looking for. Though I understand if you want to use HPA.

Don't buy it on ebay - I suggest craigslist and buy 2 or find some way to do it locally

Here's what I know in return X)...
Buy two tanks, the method I've heard is, fill one tank, then use the other to top to 3000. You will need a fill station, and still 2500-3000 fills wont be too bad considering you wont even use a full 4500 in one game.
Believe it or not, air gets used a lot quicker than you expect, and on a 68/45 I get maybe 3 woods games. that's not much - ~1250 paintballs.

Good luck.

Getting back to the original question, that is a fairly small tank and you still need to buy a valve for it. You can get a new 80 CF tank online for about $150 with valve. The fill adapter is $50 or less so your total investment is going to be less than $200. Then you need to find someone to fill it for you and that is going to be anywhere from $3 to $10 depending on the store. You are also only going to be starting with 3000 psi so you will never get a full fill on your bottle if it is 4500.

Now ... all that said ... where do you normally go to play now? Is that 45 minutes away too?

Okay gotcha cool man. Thanks.

And na, I play about 15 mins away, at a family sports park. They got a nice field for paintball, and also got woods courses.

I would maybe shoot 1k balls, 1.5k max per day. And I can only play maybe once a week there, due to work and such.

Sadly no.. Only Co2.. It's not like a pro-shop and all, just a "Mom and pop's" thing. I'm gonna try to talk them into getting something for air, but we will see..

I noticed you're in Central Texas. I'm wondering if there are any dive shops/dive centers you can go to within driving distance. With the Gulf of Mexico bordering Southern Texas, you might get lucky with a dive shop.
