Anyone with experience with both these barrels on an ego or etek? I currently have an .688 ultralite. The base shaft 4 barrel is .689 bore. The shaft 4 control bore is supposed to be about 8.5" compared to the UL 4 or 5". How is the sound signature between the two?
I mainly shoot pmi premiums and marbs. I will eventually get the remaining backs. I tend to bore match or slight underbore.
Having not actually used both of these but having used an Ultralight extensively as well as other barrels with various control bore lengths and porting designs I will say that the shaft 4 seems like it should have better performance numbers both in efficiency and sound signature over the Ultralight given equal bore sizes. My reasoning behind this is the bore length being 8.5 inches in length (the optimum length being 7-10) and the increased porting over the Dye ultralight design.
That being said, since you already have an Ultralight, it is also a phenomenal barrel. I shot a 16 inch Dye Ultralight for years on all of my guns simply because I loved the looks, feel and pointability of the barrel. The differences between the two around probably going to be negligible (5-10 fps difference and slight difference in sound) so you shouldn't be going wrong either way. I am guessing the extra backs will be cheaper on the Shaft 4 which would definately be a plus.

With such a small difference in bore size, I'd take the Shaft4. BUT, since you have the UL, then it's not worth the upgrade. As Mr. Stealthy said, it's a shorter control bore and has more porting, but it's not big enough of a difference to pay for.
Stick with what you have. If you're going to buy anything, buy a kit with some small bore sizes. OTherwise there is no point in spending money on something that won't really make much difference.
CCI stock class Phantom pump f/s. This thing is LNIB. Comes with stock magazine, extended magazine, barrel detent kit, crossfire lite up dot sight, velocity adjustment tool, 12 tubes even the barrel blocker

Old school angel poppets/cup seals(LCD and A4/speed), spring detents(not sure which models) F/S
Its actually more for my gift list, to give ideas other then paintball gift cards. I really only like to put things that I would really use a lot. I am still hoping someone who has run both will chime in.
I knew I should of asked a regular at our field yesterday if I could borrow his barrel to take a couple shots and see (Chrono) and hear the difference.
I have the shaft 4 and a ul barrel for my ego 11. Personally, I don't notice a difference in accuracy, however, there is a noticeable difference in sound signature between the two. The ul is significantly quieter (imo) (this may also be due to the change in frequency. the sound is pingyer(?) or higher pitched and thus, is less noticeable.

you said it! Even with your cute doggy run or w/e that was. Lol
having owned the Ultralite and the CF boomstick at the same time I can tell you that isn't the case. The boomstick chrono'd maybe 1-2 fps faster and they weighed so close to the same you would never know the difference. For the crazy price difference there is no way the broomstick is worth it aside from being probably the best looking barrel out there.
