Angel LCD Cycling but no Velocity

Hey guys, I just got this gun in a trade yesterday and it was leaking all over the place, from the noid area/breach/minireg. Anyways, I went through and relubed the noid/gaskets, replaced the ram orings, lubed/set the LPR to 6 bar (90ish psi?), fixed the minireg leak. and got the gun cycling again, with just a slight leak out of the breech/rammer area.

Now the gun is cycling, but it feels like there is almost zero air making it down the barrel. One thing i do notice when it is cycling, it seems like there is a pretty strong burst of air shooting out the right side between the body and frame, right above the trigger area, strong enough that it will blow my finger back if it is resting there. It's not leaking there, it only happens when the gun cycles. Not sure if that is normal or not.

I've tried adjusting the minireg, upping the dwell from 14 to about 19 (lucky un1chip board w/ stock dm chip), replacing the battery and I am using a high pressure tank as well.

I'm kinda stumped as this is the first angel ive owned and messed with in a loooooooong time. I was thinking the rammer may not be hitting the valve or something of that nature. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Are you sure the noid gasket was replaced correctly. The diverted air makes it sound like its backwards.

Edit. Got beat to it

Didn't know it could go in backwards. Is it the one between the solenoid and the manifold? Or the one between the manifold and body? I'll give that a try when i get home!

the one between the silver plate and the body. it has slots in it to route air. If its backwards the gasket blocks the air holes.

If you have never torn down an angel, please drop me a PM. There are one or two "gotchas" that i can save you massive time and heartache (and possibly damaged parts/tools) on.

I'll definitely be in touch. This is the first angel i've ever had to mess with, so its a little bit of a learning experience. Thanks again!

The two biggies are
1. Removing the breech rods. 12 years of rust makes them difficult
2. Removing the body grubs (3 of them) and the minireg grub.

Everything else is cake.

Question. Does the spool inside the solenoid have to go in a certain direction? If I put it in backwards would that cause these problems i'm having?

Haha, i had to. There were oring fragments and black gunk in it that needed to be cleaned out. I've had to pull noids apart and relube them before, so its not too difficult. But i'm just thinking there could be a chance i put it in backwards. I'll swap it around when i get home and see if that fixes it. Hopefully it does, i'd like to use it this weekend.

does the ram cycle when you fire? you can check by swinging the breech open and firing with air to see if the hammer moves forward. If it does, your solenoid is fine (and so is the ram) and the problem is with the valve.

If it doesnt suspect ram/solenoid

It does cycle when i fire. It looks like its hitting the valve and everything. I'm kind of at a loss...

The air coming from between the frame and body during each shot is also strange. I wouldn't think any air should be coming from there. Am I wrong?

On the underside of the breech block where your serial number is located... there is a small oring. Check to see if it still resides on the breech block. More than half of the used angels out there don't have this oring anymore.

I don't think it does. I'll have to check when i get home. Think that could cause these issues?

It would cause leakage, and breech wear, but not prevent firing.

If the ram is hitting the valve, but no air is pushing the ball, it sounds like the minireg isnt providing sufficient pressure. Did you rebuild the minireg?

When you fire is it a loud pop (angels are loud) or a pwwwfffftt.

I haven't rebuilt the minireg yet. the thing is, the reg isn't starving the gun for air or having any shootdown when shooting it fast. I can turn the velocity adjustment screw out to flush and the gun gets louder, but still zero air making it down the barrel. The LPR is steady around 90 psi. It doesn't sound like an angel when its shooting, its relatively quiet.

It might do that if your minireg is only putting out like 100psi.

Is it possible to have the ram backed out so far that it doesn't make good contact with the valve?

To me the posibilities are
1. Ram not striking the valve enough to release air
2. LPR side assembled wrong?
3. Valve shot. but this would cause way more symptoms.

Wait a second, did you put your valve stem in backwards? if you did that it would hit the stem and actually seal it, instead of releasing it.

The ram should be contacting the pin end of the valve, with the colored cup seal on the barrel side of the valve. Right?
