PC Boot up Issues!

Alright guys so I enjoy computers and gaming but am not a computer expert so please keep the tech talk to a language that a retard like me can understand.. But yesterday my pc was having some problems on excel and I thought it just needed a quick reboot but now it won't fully boot up? It will turn on and go to the first bios screen but then will just get stuck on this black page with a blinking prompt typing icon in the top left corner? It won't let me start up in safe mode either and have no idea what to do any ideas?

Specs: ( I know its a link, cry about it )

Sounds like either you have a corrupted file or your hard drive is done

Well then that could very well mean your hard drive is going up. Not all times when your hard drive goes up does it just quit cold turkey. If it is going up then yes you would need to be concerned since if it goes up completely there is almost no way to get your data back since most computer shops won't crack open a hard drive in an attempt to rig it long enough to do a data transfer. If I were you I pop it out and take it to a computer repair shop to let them test it or just change the hard drive and do the transfer. I run 3 1tb internal hard drives and a 1tb external as a safety backup just incase

Save yourself a few bucks and check it out yourself. You'll want to check to see if the drive's SMART status shows anything bad going on. Google (and the first link in the first result) suggested HD Tune, looks like that should do it for you (never used it myself, but it looks like you'd want the "health" tab). Hard drive manufacturers usually have a utility you can download that'll check it for you as well, but those are usually specific to that manufacturer. I know both Western Digital and Seagate make something like this, google "[brand] disk diagnostic" or something and you should find it in the first couple results.

Likewise. Never had a problem with them, and I only saw maybe 3 bad ones in 5 years of working IT.

As far as the errors, which ones are showing up red? Some of them can be fixed, some of them mean the drive itself is going bad. If it's the occasional corrupt file or something, that can usually be repaired, but if it's much more than that, I wouldn't trust that drive any further than I could throw it with data I cared about.

Hmm. Damaged/corrupt blocks can be recovered, but 54% is a pretty big number for just being an occasional corrupt file, so I'd definitely recommend backing up your stuff. I'd start with your folder from c:\users, then get any other files you have on the hard drive, in case the drive decides to crap out midway through.

You can try running "chkdsk c: /r" at a command prompt (assuming it's the c drive), but bear in mind that using "/r" means that any unreadable data will be lost, so back everything up first. Using "/f" instead of "/r" will fix errors (which *shouldn't* cause any data loss), but it doesn't do anything about bad sectors. More on chkdsk, if you're looking for some light evening reading: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CHKDSK

Yeah drive is crapping out. Like they said, first to to run chkdsk, to fix all you possibly can, then do a backup of your important stuff, and get new drive asap!

Newegg should be able to help you out with replacing the drive, but the one you linked is pretty solid. I have the 1.5TB version of the same drive, no complaints.

/r is usually the best bet, but if 54% of your blocks are actually bad you are in bad shape.

Once you have stuff backed up, I'd try /r in case there's more stuff you can rescue. Even if that fixes things, I can't say I'd trust that drive.

Luckily this drive is under warranty so im going to send it off for repairs, going to use the money i would have spent on a new drive on a monitor instead. Honestly don't have many important files to begin with but i dont trust the drive /r might have helped but the drive will go out eventually might as well fix it now.

I had the same issue in my PC. I think one of the files in your PC is corrupted or problem with your hard drive. Replace your hard drive.
