Who cares why anyone NEEDS an AR or whatever the hell they want to shoot? When we get into the "needs" issue, it's the dumbest thing ever invented to justify denial of rights. I don't NEED an SUV but I like it and I have one. I don't NEED to eat steak every now and then, but I do and I like it. I don't NEED to have internet, but I do and I like it. I don't need to have sex on a regular basis, but I do and I like it. You wanna take away my rights based on what I need?

Why should the government regulate the "needs" of the American people? A homeless person needs to have a decent meal and a roof over their heads, but they don't "need" a 5 figure welfare income or a Navigator to drive, yet they are getting that from the government for free - well, paid for by me and millions of others in this country. Don't I have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? Happiness coming in the form of "wants" and "needs" that I choose?

I'm sick to death of government interference in my life. I'm a law abiding, hard working, tax paying, middle class American who stays out of trouble. Yet, my lifestyle and what I "want vs need" is being legislated to death because of the apathy of the American people. ****'s gotta stop, man!

It's because you're battling a political movement in this country that has a genuine contempt for this country. They don't care what history says, nor what facts say.

Michelle Obama sums up the movement pretty well:

"all this for just a flag" with a contemptuous look and a sneer

If they don't think you need it: they don't want you to have it.

Maybe it has something to do with the ease of access to knives, no matter the age? Maybe it has something to do with the number of people and households that have knives on/in them make gun-owning statistics completely irrelevant? Sorry, but I hate this stupid, useless argument that is commonly used as a straw man. There is no comparison between the two. If anything, comparing knife killings to gun killings shows the effectiveness of gun control. More difficult access = less killings.

The only true value of a semi auto rifle is to kill a lot of people quickly
How many people are killed by semi-auto rifles compared to pistols or bolt action rifles? Semi-auto rifles take up a very, very small percentage of murders.

Then why do cars kill far more people than knives do even though they're more difficult to access than knives are? Looks like your little equation doesn't work out after all.

In an encounter with the egotistical conqueror Alexander the Great, after being asked if he wanted anything, Diogenes replied, "Stand a little less between me and the sun."

You should look into who Diogenes is... He is hardly someone to be making a claim of authority to. In all reality, this quote only hurts your position.

No, seriously. I'm freaking lost.

I know who the little old onion eating man who lived in a barrel is, the first cynic. I know he believed man should live through logic and not superstition, learned from Socrates, hated Plato... or maybe it was the other way around...

I found it interesting the similarities between what Viking shadow said and the rumored quote.

About 220 million Americans drive or ride in a car every. single. day. You'd be hard-pressed to find a man (especially a married one) that uses a knife every day. This is all without mentioning that car accidents hurt BOTH parties, rather than just one.

So yes, my equation works out quite well.

Stop being stupid for once.

He hated Plato. I still am not convinced Socrates was a real person. Which I suppose calls this guys existence into question.

yay Diogenes! My Phil 1301 notes say he was the world's first philosophical jerk.

On topic, we need to try something to impede gun violence. Nugent vs. Biden battle royal

Ted Nugent is an entertainer; he's not intelligent. If anyone was to debate Joe Biden on guns, it should be either Ben Shapiro or Alan Gottlieb.

I agree with this. But, on his "visit" with Piers Morgan and with a few others he's been interviewed by, I totally agreed with what he had to say. When it comes to firearms, he does know his stuff, even if it's spoon fed to him. At least he's not "wrong", per se, with the facts he gives.

I love how everybody glossed over my link and my comment that MAYBE you'd learn something if you'd read it. Like actual facts about Gun Control. In Australia, implemented by a conservative Prime minister after an assault rifle rampage killed 35 people. Where Assault weapons were banned and an assault weapon and semi auto gun buy back was implemented. Back in 1996. No massacres since and a marked reduction in gun related homicides. But this is America some will bleat! We are different! I'd say nope and, I found the article interesting in that the end results surprised me.

His conclusion of less governance comes from a twisted philosophy of extreme isolation (he not only rejected government; he rejected family and other social organizations), destruction of property rights, and disregard for human decency (urinating on people, masturbating in public, etc). In modern terms, this would be like me quoting Brittney Spears' (shaved head version) political theory. Early Cynicism is a twisted philosophy and Diogenes is a terrible person to take any form of political advice from.

P.S. Your champion of less government has a psychological disorder named after him.

Just curious, how do you explain The Clouds? Or Xenophane?
