A car kind of fell in my lap today

and i'm in love.

Its nothing special but this is the first time I've driven home a car that I bought and was thoroughly excited.

My brother and I know this guy through a local car forum (cincyscoobs), second owner of this pristine '99 1.8T A4 quattro. He wanted to sell it and step into an r32 and was letting it go cheap.

He was OCD about the car literally knit-picked everything its flawless, i'm the third owner now You could tell he really invested a lot of time in it and I got it for a steal of a deal. You couldn't ask for a better guy to buy a car from. He was hardcore emotionally attached, I felt terrible driving away I saw him start to cry. That touched me for some reason. It was cool. I felt bad though like I was stealing something from him, I guess it was his first car he bought in high school.

Here are some pictures I stole from him, and some information about it.

Power stuff
- Stg. 1 APR ECU chip, 91 & 100 octane files
- Forge Splitter DV
- N75 race boost frequency / wastegate control valve
- 3" 034 Motorsport test pipe
- Rear O2 anti-fouler
- K&N cone intake
- Blinktek intake heat shield
- 2.5" 304SS exhaust, one resonator to dump behind rear wheels

Suspension and bend stuff
- H&R sport springs
- Bilstein shocks
- HD tie rods
- Homebrew power steering cooler

Brakes
- Hawk HP+ pads
- Zimmerman rotors
- RBF 600 High temp brake fluid

Dress up
- European 2-piece headlights
- 6000K HID low beam
- 3000K halogen high beam
- Homebrew S6-style LEDs
- Clear European sidemarkers
- Podi column mounted boost gauge, electronic w/ stepper motor

He also included a ton of extra gaskets and parts, not to mention nearly EVERYTHING suspension related has been replaced with brand new oem parts.

It didn't come with the enkies shown it does have some OK looking Mille Miglia 16x7s on it, they'll be used for winters while I save for a summer set up with some proper *** wheels

Paint and interior are near perfect, and all the preventative maintence was done including taking care of the water pump impeller issue 1.8ts have. Good things come to people who wait I guess.

cool track action pic he has too, car went around mid ohio

inb4: vag thread, don't care, slow, gay, 1.8ts suck, should've got s4, poor, poors car, jwrx bro, should've got a wrx, should've got dodge camero

I apologize for the stupid thread. I typically don't make new car thread but I was excited and have no real friends to talk to.

I'll snap some pictures of it tomorrow that will actually capture the cleanliness of this car. It blows my mind its a 99.

Congrats but.. I liked your Scoob better.

If you don't mind my asking, what'd you get it for?

It looks nice for sure. Maybe I missed it, is it a 3 pedal or a 2 pedal?

Just a hair over 116. Newer stock k03, but going k04 will give me something to do in the future

I needed something more reliable, I realize most subarus are extrememly reliable but I just kept finding more and more issues, I later even found out it wasn't even the original ej205 in the car

3 pedal of course

That's the nice thing about b5s. They use undercoated, galvanized steel so they don't really rust unless you neglect them. Any interior pics?

I had my 97 for 4 years I think. I beat the living **** out of that car, and ended up snapping a wrist pin. It took a lot of abuse though, ill give it credit. My 2.8 was a good car other than oil consumption. The bad thing about these cars is the cost of the 90-100k maintinence but it sounds as if the PO did everything on yours. 1.8t's have some pretty nasty sludge issues so make sure you use full synthetic oil

None of those mods affect reliability except the tune

b5s are known for being pretty reliable, my brother DD'd a 98 1.8t auto with 206k on it for ever and sold for 2k.

My specific subaru spent more time in the garage than on the road. I don't think the CEL ever was off. I'm not saying subarus are unreliable, but mine for sure was

That's awesome, seems people have better luck with the pre 2000 cars

He took care of the 100k maintenance thankfully. Always used full synthetic and I plan on keeping that way, thanks for the tip

Yeah that's the sline steering wheel, they're nice. I do like the early 99' interior more than the 99.5+
