new to tournaments

First thread!

Ive been playing paintball for at least 5 years now and my friends and i decided to make a school paintball club and try to get into NCPA. well NCPA kinda sucks for high school so we decided to skip the kids stuff and jump into some real tournaments. the problem is, we dont know what we are doing. at all. we all registered on APPA but we dont know what tournaments we can do. there is a CPL event coming up that i would love to try. is there a difference between amateur and open? does it matter which one we sign up for?

any and all advice is welcome and appreciated

Although you may have been playing for five years, but never have played a tourney, it's wise to start at the rookie level.

You don't want to be completely out matched by playing against very experienced teams in the open division. The skill difference between open tourney players and the beginner/rookie is a lot.

You want the experience to be fun and challenging but not a total wipeout.

So i would definitely encourage you guys to sign up for rookie in this upcoming CPL, have FUN with it and gauge your success from there.

One last note, definitely need to try to find a couple other teams around you to scrimmage against to prep for the event and see exactly how you measure up.
Good Luck.

I would not play in an open tourney, stick with the beginner ones.

Make sure you guys practice the essential skills like snapshooting 1v1 drills, diving into snake/doritos, slides, etc. I see so many new teams go out there and just look like train wrecks. Remember to have fun, too. If you do good, awesome, you will probably do bad but remember everyone does their first time.
