so i got a threaded press fit feedport to replace my stock stovepipe on my fishbone, the one i was able to get my hands on is raw aluminum, i was thinking of having an anodizing place in town do a simple polish black but i don't know if they will take that small of an order. i was wondering what are the risks of running it with raw aluminum? it was a rough cut from the WGP factory, still had burrs and excess metal on it that i sanded off.

Raw aluminum can oxidize and get some nasty crud on it if its left raw for a long time (i.e. played with, gets dirty, left wet, etc.)

If thats all youre needing annod, your best bet is to polish it yourself to get it glossy, then ask a local anno company if you can sneak it into a run of black when they do it. Most anno companies do a lot charge for one color where its a base charge for one tank - so, if theyre running a tank of black and they have room for your feedneck, theyll just throw it in for you.

One thing to consider though, those feednecks are pressed in the body, so if you anno it before you press it in, you might scratch through the anno. Not sure if that matters since its not going to be coming out, but might be something to think about.

I just polished mine and pressed it in. Make sure you shape the feedneck to clear your bolt first as the arch is not correct. I dremelled my arch slightly and wrapped some sandpaper around an old metal bolt to sand it perfectly.



I used some red loctite to hold it. The loctite was not necessary as it was a pain to remove even when I test fit it without loctite (test fit to make sure the bolt would clear).

right now the bolt seems to clear, but the guy i do all my work with has a lathe and we will probably clean up the arch some more, it is a pretty loose fit so loc-tite is going to be necessary, he's going to help me glue it back in and we decided to just polish it too much of a hassle for what it's worth to try and get it annoed.
