Changing and adding LEDs in a Rotor?

Every now and then I see pictures with what looks like LEDs in the windows of a Rotor and/or the power button LED a different color. I've done a search on here for "Dye Rotor LED" and "Changing LED on a Rotor" and haven't come up with anything.

Does anyone know how to do this or can anyone point me to a "how-to" page on how this is done?

Thanks!

Do you just simply want a diff color? Say a purple light instead of the blue?

What your probably seeing is people with things like the Seed Kit and Virtue board. To change the LED color you would have to replace the LED (the actual Diode on the board), which would require some very precise yet cooler soldering which is rather hard. Its something that can mess up your board and its not worth it.

Why do people do this wanna-be hk thing? I mean hk people dont even play paintball, they just whine and start drama while wearing the ugliest stuff. Seriously you find light blue and pink to be attractive colors for your parents 1500 dollar investment (your gun/marker)? If you want to whine keep it off the field and save it for the internet; O wait! THATS EXACTLY WHAT YOU DO! Haha, if you don't play then don't whine.

I want your G6r parts and upgrades, sell them to me, because you wont get anything for them if you sell/trade them with the gun.

Yes, I would like to change the blue light to maybe red or orange.

A good friend of mine is very good at soldiering and works on circuit boards all the time. He can repair just about anything on a circuit board. I'd have him take a wack at it. If he messes it up, just give me an excuse to get a Virtue board for it

Wouldn't a higher quality solder gun be adjustable for temp? Would think the "better you are" you would need to control the temp precisely for different applications. Much alike welding. You don't use a mig system on aluminum.

And you really had to go to that level of sexuality? I would guess something in the range of 90% of the paintball industry is customization based. So this fits right in along with painting the shell or even one color speedfeed over another.

I've soldered LEDs in xbox controllers and gaming consoles, crap like that, haven't tried a rotor yet... might actually try it since I have all the equipment anyway... I'm going to look for my stock rotor board now, and I'll let you know what you'll need

I have changed my led in my rotor because the led was bad. Just make sure you buy the high intensity leds or you wont see them

I had a buddy do mine for me it wasn't too hard but we only did mine because the original was burnt out. Btw don't use white. It looks great indoors but a little hard to see outside. May be changing it again soon.

What size LED did he use? Would it be readily available at radio shack?
I currently have a functional board except for the LED. I already took out the busted LED and just waiting to install a new LED. The ones I currently have SMD leds are too small

I'm not sure what siZe he used but it was a little too small. He said its left over from what he used to do some Xbox controllers.

Here is a size chart. The 0603 are the xbox ones. I think the rotor is the 1206 smd.

That looks about right. Will have to install the SMD next time I get around to it. I actually used 3mm LEDs I currently had left over.
Was about to use the RGB ones I had but decided to go for the brighter red (11000mcd) to match the color kit.

Just finished changing the led on my rotor. Went down to radio shack and picked up the smd needed in red. It was a pretty simple process. The only problem I had was getting the old led out. Put with patience I got it. Shout out to seriouslysilly for posting that video. Helped a lot.

Nice, congrats on the successful replacement.
I agree, the most time consuming part of this is taking out the existing LED. But as long as one takes their time and don't go around just yanking it off, it is a pretty simple and straightforward install.
