So, I saw a mod on chop forum I read, and decided to do it myself. It's for the "eyebrow" on sportsters and older dynas, the visor that the headlight mounts to. Anyway, I've always thought that the eyebrows on those bikes were ugly, but aftermarket mounts are either expensive, require drilling mount holes into the lower tree, or both. I don't have the time or tools to attempt that right now, and this mod was cheap and easy....

Here's a google link for non-Harley riders to know what it looks like....

After 4 stages of hand sanding and polishing:

Gonna put it on the bike tomorrow, along with my new sick saddles seat that got delivered today. I'll post some pics when I get done.

Yes its a pre-gen, any reasons for the Muzzy over the slip-on? Who is this duck gentlemen, because I may be interested in that exhaust. I read here:

That theres a slight melting issue with the lower fender, and I'd lose the centerstand. I know absolutely nothing about carbs or jetting them in any way, but they both should be cleaned and rebuilt anyway so now is the time to learn I suppose.

I'm 19, have 2 fat speeding tickets, both high enough to be on the verge of having my license suspended, one got thrown out though, actually, I only have a permit lol. I got an e-mail for my insurance company a few months ago saying they dropped my rates slightly! Haha!

Point is, insurance cost depends on many things. Location is huge too. Insurance for cars is high around here due to the theft. Especially if you drive a Honda or Acura. My neighbor's Integra got stolen the week she moved here.
That makes me feel like i'm getting screwed. I was quoted around $540 for a year for a minimum coverage plan that covered accidents to pay for other peoples stuff and like $1500 in injuries. I'll have to try and call around to some different places.

I called progressive last night and basically asked them whats going on. They verified the model, displacement, etc. Verified all my discounts, as well as my driving history, insurance history, and all the bikes that have gone through that policy. Explained I cam from an FZ-6 and while not totally the same, they were close in HP and riding style. All she could tell me was that "they calculate rates based on make, model, and previous payouts for that bike" and would not budge on my price. Didn't offer me any other type of savings etc.

So I will be insurance shopping tonight.

It's the headlight mount... The stock mount is a visor thingy that looks like a chrome eyebrow over the top of the headlight. I cut it down to a v-shape/wishbone looking thing, as that is all it really needs to hold the light on.

Most people who have hd's with the headlight visor hate the visor and end up paying for a new headlight and new mounts. I did it myself for under $20 in materials and about 2-3 hours of work...

he said 4 stages of sanding.. def a cleaner look, props for doing the extra work.. small things like that are always something that help you to appreciate your machine a little more. that goes for cars, bikes or whatever.

Well, I bought another cover off eBay for 15 bucks in case I messed up, but I didn't. I used a band saw to cut as much of the metal off of it as I could without risking my fingers, then ground it down some more with a bench grinder. After I got it down to where I wanted it, I hand sanded it with 200, 400, 800 and 1000 grit sandpaper in that order, then polished it with blue magic to get it where it is now.

The majority of that piece is only about 1/8th of an inch thick, so the only part of it that actually supports the light is what I left. I'll prolly end up taking it off and re-sand it, cause there are a couple small gouges that I didn't quite get out, but overall, I'm pleased with the way it turned out. I'd also like to get it chromed, but for a small, individual piece like this, it'd be close to $150 or so from any place local, so that's way on the back burner, lol.

Yeah, I took machining for three semesters as an elective in junior college, so I know the kind of work that goes into custom pieces. This little bit of work was fun and the look is way better IMO, but some of the guys who hard tail their rides, and make custom mounts and seats and monotube swing arms and ****?

I'm always in awe of the people who put that kind of work into their scoot.

Didn't think you were

I've taken the easy way and bought things I could Have made, and even paid to have some stuff installed that I could have done myself if I had the means. This was one of those occasions where I had the means to do it and the cost of aftermarket parts was high enough to make it worth it to do myself.
