Cool story bro.
No one's saying there isn't some good deals on CL. This thread is focusing on the other people who try to sell their Tippmann 98 with a ton of useless plastic **** on it for $1000.

IMO 50% retail is a good starting point. If something is in great shape and in high demand you can go a little higher and if its older or in bad shape lower is good. Rare I think that anything should be more the 75% of retail unless its a rare high demand item.

I think craigslist and sites like it need to offer more features for sellers such price comparison for items and indicators for price negotiating. It would greatly reduce the amount of delusional sells as people would be forced to list things based the current market rather than having users make up ridiculous prices.

its the buyers responsibility to research what they are purchasing, not the website posting the listing.

I agree with the principle, but it does not manifest itself in reality, clearly. As a solution, the sites should take measures since the sellers themselves will not take the initiative of their own accord.

No offense but No. Not the sites fault if the seller can't move his crap also not the sites fault if a buyer pays way too much. One of my minor pet peeves with eBay is when they limited shipping costs (not because I sell) but because if someone has out of line shipping cost buy it from someone else and quit *****ing that someone else should look out for you.
People are still paying higher than MSRP on eBay because they are getting into bidding wars.
You can find deals anywhere you just have to be patient & vigilant cash on hand helps.
