Hello, I am going to fly to World Cup 2013 when I know dates, etc. just wanting to know, is it safe for fly paintballs, and is it okay to fly a paintball gun on a private/rented plane... My dad is a pilot and will be far more than ready to fly us to Polk city Florida... I know paintballs (evil) are closed, so is it safe to fly paintballs and what can I do to fly a paintball gun if there is not checked baggage? I was planning on saving money and buying some guns at cup. Thanks

Private would be OK. Can't check an air tank on any commercial plane.

It would be prudent to fly the air tanks EMPTY. The pressure differential is a lot MORE at 12000 feet.

At STP air pressure is 14.7psi, with a pressure differential on a full fill being up to 4485.3 psi. Even if the cargo compartment were somehow a complete vacuum that still only adjusts the pressure differential to 4500psi which is what the container is rated for in the first place.

Now, it may be prudent to empty the air tank. And on a commercial flight the regulator is required to be removed before the security checkpoint. But this is more for other safety-related reasons - ensuring liquids aren't being stored, ensuring hazardous gasses aren't being stored, that sort of thing.

I would remove the regulator just in case your dad isn't able to fly you and for future events so you know what your doing rather than panicking if FedEx will get it to the field on time
