Most criminals are also poor, and live in areas below the poverty line, although they venture out into areas above the poverty line to commit their crime. Yes, criminals cause gun violence, but you also have to look at what makes these criminals.
I think there are common political ideologies that are both crazy and dangerous, but I wouldn't try labeling any of the adherents clinically insane. But yeah....
Right. Just because someone holds "Crazy" political ideologies doesn't mean they are violent, and institutionalizing them would very much be out of the question.

Right... but what about all the other violent crime that is far more common? Shouldn't we address the fundamental causes of the violent behavior as apposed to attempting to eliminate the means by which violent acts are committed?

Most people pushing for the assault weapon ban couldn't even define what the legal term for assault weapon is. I love asking someone and first thing they think is full auto. So please, learn what the **** the law is before pushing to pass it. (not claiming anyone in this thread is that naive).

I hope you guys who are against this bill have voiced your beliefs to your elected officials. Discussing it on a paintball forum does little to stop it from passing. I wrote letters to my representative, both my senators, and convinced 7 of my friends and co-workers to do the same.
Our congressmen need to know that voting citizens care about this issue, and don't want it to pass: and they aren't going to realize that by watching the news. Please don't delay in telling them how you feel.
My senators are pigs and want nothing to do with the 2nd amendment, my rep isn't aweful in some cases. Menendez sent me some bull**** standard anti gun email. Nearly every issue that pisses me off enough that I'll actually call or write I know with almost pure certainty the standard statist/progressive response from them.
