Lol, this is how it works. They whittle away a bit at a time. See the UK.

i mostly agree.

There won't be anything overly ugly about it though. The dems will drag this plan out over many decades.

They will teach children to hate guns and anyone that owns guns and put as much red tape on the hobby of shooting. The ultimate goal being to create a society that is complacent of the 2nd amendment. Once that happens everyones right to bear arms will be stripped with overwhelming support. I truely believe this will happen in my life time.

Any overnight regulation would be ugly though. It's not out of the realm of possiblity. All it would take it a democratic controlled congress and one mass shooting.

This thread is the lulz. This panicky, conspiracy type attitude combined with the very intimidating () threats of "from my cold dead hands" really paints the picture of a retard gun owner that deserves to have less firearms available to him. Seriously, if you people knew how much work you did for the liberals you'd be astonished.

There's been very little of that in here. Quite surprising actually. But good job trying to generalize

I just wish the media would call liberals on their bull****. Quotes like, "the government should have a monopoly on legitimate violence" should set off alarms in everyone's heads. Or at least, anyone who has read the Constitution and some of the other things our Founding Fathers wrote.

I think most liberals vastly underestimate how few professional soldiers they really have among their ranks. They seem to think that the military is their servant, there for their use. I never swore an oath to the American people any more than I swore an oath to the President of the United States.

I do agree on your second portion. Weapons that would be now banned would be shot on private property and kwor behind closed doors. Most modern full autos have selectors so you can still fire in semi. Sucks for SBR and can owners
I'm curious as to what you would do as an LEO/MIL if ordered to confiscate weapons.

No, the last two pages have been nothing but complaining about the liberals wanting to go door to door for firearms, while offering nothing, literally nothing, as far as suggestions to prevent the mentally unfit from getting firearms.

You can't just sit cant criticize everything and anything, while insisting everything is fine and safe the way it is. Some of these people seem to have an idea that guns don't even play a role in gun violence.

As I've stated before I don't want to see any guns banned. But gun violence is a problem in this country. If a high rate of ownership solved the problem we wouldn't see the problems we have. So its a more complex issue than that.

I do think keeping guns out of unsafe hands would change the crime rate. Yes, a sketchy guy will still be able to get a gun with a filed serial number somewhere. But a lot of these weapons used are legally purchased. Take a gun out of their hands, and they can't just point a hammer or knife at someone and kill them.

Liberals have offered nothing other than confiscation and registration. Sorry, but you can't pick and choose.

There's nothing you can do. Nothing. You can't unmake guns. You can't ban them. You can restrict them all you want and mentally disturbed people will still find a way to get them and shoot people. See Monarch University shooting and the Cumbria shootings.

Gun violence simply becomes violent crime if you greatly restrict guns. You're 3.5 times more likely to be mugged, raped, or robbed in the UK than in the US.

And it's funny, a place like Vermont has incredibly low rates of homicide, but a city like Chicago is setting records. Vermont's has the least strict gun regulations in the country. Chicago has had a ban for the last ten years, and now has one of the strictest. Oakland and Stockton, California are routinely ranked as the one of the top 10 most violent cities in America. Ironically, firearm purchases and ownership has dramatically increased since the 2004 ban expired. Homicides, even homicides by firearm, have decreased.

Sorry, the guns aren't the problem. It's the people. But you can't change people through legislation. And you can't do nothing because the people who don't want to admit that they're the problem won't re-elect you if you tell them they need to do a better job raising their children, working, educating themselves, and not doing drugs. So the politicians have to come up with bull**** reasons.

Far more people were killed with firearms illegally obtained. Twice as many people were killed with no weapon at all than with rifles of any kind, let alone "assault rifles." The vast majority of firearms related homicides were committed with guns that would not full under the assault weapons ban. Oh, and that little fact about Federal gun prosecutions being down 40%? Yea, it's true.

So instead of enforcing the laws that already on the books, they're going to make new ones. Ones that won't inhibit criminals looking to criminal acts, but will greatly inhibit law abiding citizens. Why? Because they're evil looking, rapid fire death machines.

Meanwhile, over 15 people have been killed in Chicago.

So your solution is there's nothing we can do? After all people have been raising their children badly for millenia...

There is little you can do to prevent someone from committing a mass murder. McVeigh didn't even need a gun. Neither did the terrorists on 9/11. In fact, the best way to prevent a mass murder, is to stop it as quickly as possible. Whether you have a gun or not, simply doing something to hinder the attacker is usually enough. During the Giffords attack, a 61 year old woman was the first to attack the shooter, grabbing his arm and keeping him from reloading.

Now, if you want to have a rational discussion on violent crime, then sure, but this thread is about the assault weapons ban. Realistically, do you think you'd see any drop in violent crime or even gun homicides? Didn't the last time. Less than 10% of crimes are committed with firearms that would fall under this AWB, and the majority of those fall under it due to magazine size.

On the other hand, this legislation would instantly turn millions of law abiding gun owners in to criminals, simply for legally purchasing a common, comfortable, reliable, and accurate firearm.

Yes they do want to go door to door collecting all guns from your bolt guns to rimfires.

I'll let the witch say it for herself....

why do we need to do anything related to guns?

The number of gun owners in america is 52,000,000.
The number of accidental gun deaths per year all age groups is 1,500!
This means that 0.002% of guns in the United States will be involved in an accidental gun death.

Lets take it to all gun deaths....now you have 0.05%.

I thought guns were made for killing? Why isn't that number higher?

When Mike Huckabee is a senior US Senator and introduces legislation for it, sure, go ahead.

first off, dont play dumb, guns are a tool invented for killing. nobody invented a firearm thinking "this will be great for sport and shooting at targets".

second you conveniently only used statistics for accidental deaths, not intentional killings. i never said i thought guns cause accidents.

third a small number of malicious incidents do not render the incidents less malicious or less worthy of concern. gun violence is a real problem in america, you know it as well as i do.

ask yourself this, why do we have to do anything at all?

Ok folks let me draw the big picture here for you...Firearms, if we are very very liberal about the numbers, kill lets say...31,513 in the US every year (remember this number includes suicides, police action, and self defence) However, we have 4,315,000 babies born every year, and roughly 2,437,163 die in the US every year.

So, lets look at this, the US grows by 1,888,837 people every year, even with all the "gun deaths". So... that 31,513 is less than 1% of the total deaths in the US ever year. Why are we making a big deal out of this? The number is nothing, its a tiny little fraction of people, and we are still growing strong as a country.

1. So?
2. There are ~270 million firearms legally owned in the US, according to the ATF. 10k homicides with firearms. That's less than one percent. Guns cause accidents as much as guns cause murders. And gun ownership has recently been estimated at around 80 million, due to the increase over the last two years.
3. You're right. We have a serious problem with PEOPLE killing other PEOPLE.

first, i don't use my guns for killing. I use them for sport so for me they weren't invented for killing. It's all realative to the user.

second, i conveniently listed the percent for all gun related deaths including crimes which is a WHOOPING 0.05%.

thrid, i don't see it as a real problem. I see the national debt as a real problem so know I don't "know it" as you stated.

not door to door gun confiscation. If you're read the previous post you'd realize that any action like that wouldn't come until guns are registered which would take years.

I could totally see the house caving on gun registration, for non-NFA items since those are already registered, and high capacity magazines as a compromise for entitlement reform.
