Sound quality? I have heard Image Dynamics are great. What kind of power are you working with?

If you're set on an 8", there aren't many options.

SA8-v.2 if you want an all-out low end monster (for an 8").
SA8-v.1 if you want to save money and still have a decent sub
TC Epic 8 if you want SQ
Image Dynamics ID8 if you want a decent subwoofer in the $100 range
DD 1508 if you're a DD nuthugger

Yeah I suppose there are actually quite a few choices now that I think about it. Also the L7 8's which are actually supposed to be decent.

I'm starting from scratch. Had a SA-8 V1 about a year ago but blew it and haven't had anything since.

Thanks for all those suggestions! I will be looking into all of them.

I want good sound quality but I also want a lot of power (for an 8" of course).

The ID8 seems like it might be a good buy?

Or looking at a Scar VVX D2.

You could buy a SKAR MA-8. I have been contacted through caco from a dealer. You can get them for like $135 from a dealer.

I really hope you guys have a solution for my problem.

I've had issues with engine humming before, and am currently having them. I've tried moving the ground location to a better spot; nothing. I replaced my RCAs with 25 dollar JL Audio ones; nothing. It's to the point where I have to have my gain 1/4 or less of the way up or else the sub will spaz out and go full-excursion, probably damaging it.

HALP, WAT DO

Burn it.

I have no idea though. I had that amp at like half gain its whole life, but the level on the HU was never more that 10/15. I almost never used that sub like it was meant to be used.

Are your RCAs grounded?

Can you make sure the head unit is grounded very solidly as well?

Ground the headunit ground at the same place as the amp. Usually the first thing I try when humming is an issue.

You understand the "Max" ratings on amps are completely made up imaginary numbers right?

yeah i realize any one in my price range wont come anywhere near what they claim. i'm just weary of damaging my sub, i didnt want to over shoot. 12" kicker L7 wired to 2 ohms, 4 gauge power and a 8 gauge ground. im such a noob with this stuff even though ive had boom boom for a few years now.

There are people running well over 1000wrms to L7s daily without issue.

I feel like mine could survive more, and it's getting at least 750rms from my zx1500.1. I don't have a need for more, though.

To be honest you should be fine with either of those.

What kind of enclosure do you have the L7 in?

Also, upgrade that 8ga wiring. It's not doing you any favors. 8ga wiring isn't rated to support that much power.

dafuq u wiring your sub to 2ohm for? You're wanting to get a budget amp but not get alll the power out of it by running @ 2ohm? Wire that **** to 1ohm, buy a Hifonics or Audiopipe amp and call it a day. I ran my L7 at around 1200rms daily and it took it fine, assuming your enclosure isn't huge.
