Sliding problems

Hey guys,
I am not a newbie to paintball at all, I have played in tournaments for probably 8 years now and still have problems with my sliding technique. So here I go

I used to always do the knee slide when I was younger and didn't know better. I built from there and started doing thigh slides like from baseball when I run to my bunker off the break. My problem however is when moving up in bunkers I can say 9/10 times when I slide I do a knee slide. Usually I don't get shot but several times I have because I did this slide.

So my question is what do you use to slide up the field and not at an angle.

Superman dives and hip slides. The only time a knee slide is acceptable is if you use one knee while keeping your gun up. This is appropriate if you're running and gunning to a corner and you want to establish control of a lane as soon as you get to your bunker. If you're on the tape when you move forward, you can usually get away with a hip slide should superman dives be a problem for you. However, going up the middle, superman dives are the way to go.

My main problem is confidence with superman dives, I am going to start practicing them more but hip slides to me feel so awkward if I am going from D1 to D2

I agree superman dives are hard running full sprint and launching yourself at first. But should be and are easy between bunkers like from D1 and D2. Just practice those short dives between bunkers with a little speed then work your way up with speed and distance.

But pads are mandatory. Elbow, knee and hip pads for doing it over and over.

Do what your most confident in, i do knee slides to get to back corners so im already in a descent firing postion when i get there. To get to snake and move up i tend to do my own little made up dive that i feel comfortable with and that keeps me low. I see no need to to do superman dives when i prefer something else.

It may sound silly, but if you want to break the mental barrier that prevents you from doing a superman dive, practice diving onto your bed or a couch. You know that you won't get hurt and it will build your confidence.

This. Dolphin or superman dives are great. I've been shot out doing knee slides, never during a dolphin. It's a skill that's really useful to learn. And this tip really does help.

Dolphin?

I have a tendency to do both superman and knee slides. When I knee slide I try to keep to one knee so I can pop up afterwards.

Your neighbors may think you are stupid, but you can just practice in your yard. Find any soft spot in the grass and initiate the superman!

I had a real big problem with superman dives last year. I used to knee slide almost exclusively but I kept getting shot while sliding more and more often. I was so scared to commit to a superman dive completely that I would end up sliding on my side which hardly worked out well. Even when I would run to the snake off the break I would slide on my side. I remember the exact moment I decided to fully commit to a superman dive. Just like before I had run to the snake off the break and done my full body side slide but this was in the middle of the summer and I had just a cut off sleeve t-shirt on. There was a patch of turf burn about the size of my palm on my side up under my arm. Since that day I have committed to doing superman dives and they have become no problem for me.

It is all about confidence. It is not difficult, just intimating.

^^Agreed, the mental barrier is pretty large, at least it was for me. Breaking it up helps, get comfortable doing much shorter slides and it will come.

What I did for supermans was get in the insert bunker to snake or Dorito and just take one step and dive into it and just kept repeating that until I got more comfortable with it and then started a few bunkers back and ran from there and so on until I reached the start box. And with hip slides I started without my gun, pretended to tag up and ran to either back left or back right until I got confidence and then started using my gun.

It also helps to have a more experienced player show you how. Thats how I learned to superman, more experienced player just told me "Look, this is how you do it. Now do it"

The trick to superman sliding is to just let it happen. Chances are you've tripped while walking plenty of times in your life, this is just a controlled version of it.

While running, simply lean forward and catch yourself with your palms or the "heel" of your fists. The second you hit the ground, lock your shoulder and elbow, then shove hard with your feet.

Common mistakes while superman sliding:
Jumping in the air first.
Letting your barrel tip hit the ground.
Kicking your feet backwards while on your stomach, paintballs like feet.
Rolling onto one side or another, sure to leave bruises.
Wearing your mask too loose.

What happens to the tank when you do the superman dive? Does it ended up hitting the ground at any point or is it rested on your forearm?

Yeah it's pretty much rested on your forearm, as when you are doing a superman slide/dive your palms are to be remained in the upwards position toward the sky.
