God, you are insufferable. This idea of media being the cause of high gun violence is an often discussed topic that is never properly delved into. I understand you are incapable of having moderately intelligible discussions, but could you at least attempt not to destroy them.

By derailing threads and ruining discussions?

As I already pointed out, my posts were entirely on topic. Have you actually read the thread title recently?

As you well know, threads go where the discussions take them. There is no reason to take an on topic discussion (mine and tuffs) and bury it in your bull**** until kingdom come. It is borderline trolling, but the mods around here will never do anything about it, so you may continue on your reign of spreading bull**** and ignorance until one day when the mods finally wake up and fix this hellhole (I'm not holding my breathe)...

Also, you have *** burgers.

Since your discussion was already off topic to begin with, you can't say I went off topic because I didn't participate in your off topic discussion. I'm the one who took this thread back on topic, stop making excuses for yourself.

I would say how you were raised plays a big role in how you interpret violent media. For example, I was taught how to safely handle and use firearms from a young age. I have always known how destructive they can be when handled/used in a violent or reckless manner.

That said, I would say violent media has not had any significant negative influence on me. I do however, disagree completely with children playing games like Call of Duty. Especially if they have no real life experience with firearms. If you couple that with the fact that their minds are not capable of maturely interpreting the exposure to violence, you have a recipe for potential disaster. This also applies to various other types of media.

Mental health issues can also play a role.

The causes of gun violence is relevant to prevention of gun violence. It was perfectly on topic. Stop trolling.

Again, I am interested in statistically significant relationships.

Just stating one of my opinions on "This idea of media being the cause of high gun violence"

Sorry for not posting a graph.

I'm sorry, but I am trying to keep a fruitful discussion on track despite blake's best efforts. Tuff asserted a causal relationship between violent behavior and violent media. I am interested in exploring this case. I don't want to diverge into the realm of anecdotal evidence for the fear of it never coming back.

I did not intent to come off as harsh. Sorry, if I did.

That's exactly what my posts were about, so it appears you have some sort of handicap.

But we were in mid-discussion about another. Your post was vaguely related, but certainly not relevant. Why ruin my argument in favor of your old rehashed one? Can you not wait until we got to the bottom of the media and violence causal relationship? If you wanted to start a new discussion, why not create a new thread? Instead you choose to derail mine...

This isn't you're thread, and you aren't in control of people can talk about. Since my posts were on topic and are definitely relevant, all you can do is whine about it since you know I'm right.

After reading the rest of the post below, my post wasn't entirely off topic, and I'd ask your opinion of the article. It certainly goes along with what I was stating rather well.

[quoute]You are asserting that violent media and the internet causes more massacres. My point is that I see countries with much more violent media with lower homicide rates, countries with much more nosy media with much lower homicide rates, countries with a much stronger "internet culture" with much lower homicide rates. In fact, I see zero statistical relationship between the two. I am asking you to show me this relationship.[/quote]

Well my point was that the media coverage of these events, leads to more people having the idea to commit such crimes, as shown in the previous post that you tended to ignore. I gave a media account of them escalating things. Afghanistan has nearly no media, and less random massacres than the United States. Shootings escalated by war are an entirely different thing.

Quote:
Countries can be hard to compare, so I thought of another example. If the causal relationship between media and homicide is so strong, why the discrepancy between the south and the rest of the country?
I'd need to see more information than a graph, but the south in this country has had numerous differences from the north (and now west and midwest) and their literacy rates are also much lower. This has plagued them for 300+ years now.

And then after looking at this, tell me why 5,770 murders were committed by blacks, compared to 4,849 by whites, even though blacks only make up 13% of the population in America.

Stating facts, is not racist at all. While the numbers are close, blacks being such a small part of the population does make the numbers much more eye opening. That's crazy, and unfortunate.

Indeed. Which is why I hope you'll reread my post and that article and not dismiss it, since it touches on exactly that. I have no hope Carl will, he's too busy rocking out with Blake.

It is a long article, so I skimmed. I looked again and still see no causal relationship showing areas with more violent media leading to higher rates of violent crime. Care to point it out to me?
