True Gold Marker
I want a real GOLD marker. I have a gold CSL and a gold Luxe 2.0 but its not really what I want. I want a real dipped in gold so shiny you can see your reflection finish. Is it possible to get a gun dipped?

It wouldn't be dipping if you wanted real gold, you'd be looking at electroplating gold onto the marker. It'd be a thicker finish as you need to copper plate aluminum, then nickel plate it, then gold plate it. Caswell electroplating has a forum that might be helpful.

Polishing your gun before the anno would give it a shinnier finish

I am friends with the family that runs Hiles plating. I am pretty sure they can do it, and they run a nationwide business.

I have seen them gold plate some pretty interesting stuff and it seemed durable. I wonder if you need to get a clear coat over it, and I am not sure they do that. Gold plating and polishing is a labor and knowledge intensive process. I think the labor tends to cost more than the trace amount of gold.

Can you ask them for me? If that is something they would be willing to try? I'm somewhat concerned about how to keep threads and things protected for the reassembly of the marker.

The problem with durability isn't with the gold, it's with the plating underneath. The gold is going to stick fine to the nickel but you normally don't see many nickel guns parts that look that great after years of use.

Palmers did a Typhoon in gold plate over nickel for their 1500th Typhoon. from the photos I've seen it came out really well, unfortunately I never got to see it in person.
the Typhoons all start as brass though so the nickel plate sticks to it much better than it would aluminum, especially high polished aluminum. Most of the aluminum markers that I have seen with either polished nickel or chrome have flaking issues after some years of use such as the KAPP Flame markers and some of the bob long markers that they have done. The older Navarone cockers that I have seen that are nickel plated have held up rather well, but they are done in a matte/beadblasted finish which I assume would hold the plating better.

CP did a few gold-plated barrels many moons ago, but they're susceptible to the same issues. The one I have looks terrible today.

Agreed. Unless you make it a wall hanger forever.

And for all the cash it cost to plate it gold like that.. he could have something even more beautiful.. like the ODD aurora Karta. Or your dark aurora X. I dunno.. I find the aurora to be far more fascinating than gold, but maybe that's just me.

I recall there being a few black intimidators with gold plated accents. All gold seems like overkill to me, and you end up with something expensive AND tacky.
