does anyone know if the front brakes have ball bearings that would get messed up if you remove the rotors? mechanic at the shop i went to told me they do but he also claimed he doesnt know anything about gmc

Yes they do. Rotors are pressed into the wheel bearings. Brake jobs are much more money. Prepare to spend about double that of a regular brake job if you are getting rotors replaced.

I strongly suggest bringing your car somewhere else for the repair if your mechanic can't look at modern brakes and tell if they are trapped rotors or not.

I have a 2005 Colorado and had to do rotors on it last summer. They are a pain in the ***. Compared to the old style ones. The entire hub/ wheel bearing/ abs assembly has to off of the steering knuckle to get to the rotor bolts.
