Is it a teachers responsibility to voluntarily be cannon fodder?

No one is saying we should 'task' teachers with this and make it part of their duty. We are saying that they shouldn't be forced to forfeit their right to self defense because of their chosen profession. Don't want to carry while teaching? Then don't.

If we must go down this route then hire more police officers to guard schools and pay for it with taxes on firearms and related paraphernalia.

Why hire someone that has no obligation to protect?

Like every other right enumerated in the BOR, firearm ownership isn't absolute; therefore, if teachers don't want to forfeit their "right to self-defense" then they can choose a different profession. I have the enumerated right speak my mind on any topic I so choose, but my chosen profession abrogates that right certain instances.

It's funny how this discussion obfuscates teacher's desires to protect their classroom by shrouding the discussion in terms of self-defense.

Having to bite your tongue to get a paycheck is nowhere near the same as being shot at. The right to life is absolute.

So it's OK to abrogate certain inalienable rights, but not others? I don't think that's a path you want to trek down. Your absolute right to life is somehow more important than my absolute right to liberty (if we're using the standard as established by the Dec. of Independence)?

How does someone carrying a firearm abrogate your right to Liberty?

Until that firearm is actually used to hurt you, the only thing hindering your liberty is your own paranoia.

Agree with most of what you listed.

Monthly required range fire sessions - That is asking far too much.

Should teacher be allowed to carry?

This is a decision best left up to the individual communities. The general government should have no say in the matter, and depending on the state's constitution, it's say should be limited as well.

It should not be a requirement. I haven't quite thought out the collateral duty vs individual right argument, yet. I think I will sit on it for a bit and see what hatches.

With the restrictions listed and mandatory training, I vote yes. This isn't a fix for the entire problem, but it is a legitimate step in protecting schools.

the president doesn't think it's a band-aid solution....just look at his guards.

Nor do banks, court houses, and pretty much any other government building outside of an elementary school. I guess that's not important enough.

Name me a time in history in which any sort of prohibition law has worked? Banning them will just create a black market for it. You wont' see any drop in crime whatsoever. In fact the evidence points to an increase in crime.

The fact that anyone feels secure where they are is because of self delusion. At any moment an infinite amount of possibilities could happen. Remember that whether or not you are carrying, a weapon, makes a huge difference in the ability you have to control whether you live or die. Being trained also is a huge part if you expect to survive. Look at Israel for example. Everyone fights, mothers, sons, daughters etc. because their world is a warzone. Until we can fix our country, **** our world, and the people who cause the violence you have no logical choice than to always prepare yourself for the worst. If you don't your lying to yourself. "O that won't happen to me!"
