Maybe he had a key. It just said he retrieved the gun.
Regardless, this is a stupid waste. Definitely doesn't sound like "jokingly" and "playful" wrestling if it turned that violent.

:insert knee jerk political reaction: Now wait for the cry out to ban all shotguns and paintball guns since they must be the cause of these types of issues now too.....

Another ignorant statement......... The gun did not come out and shoot the boy in the chest. If guns are a problem then along with them we need to ban the spoons that kill fat people and the cars that people use to text in and drive drunk wich kill people. We need to ban fertalizer , race fuel and box trucks because thats what killed all the people in the Oaklahoma bombing. We need to ban commercial airliners so something like 9/11 never happens again. If someone has the mindset to kill then they will kill. All of these were terrible things........ The people who committed the act are to blame not the item used to carry it out.

Come now, that argument is a straw man, and doesn't have that much to do with this particular event. Would Dalton Williams, in a room full of friends, be dead right now if he was attacked with a kitchen knife? It's a crime of passion, his attacker wasn't going to go and buy explosives, or wait and try to hit him with his car. He went to grab the nearest deadly weapon. One shot from a shotgun was all it took. If that was knife, Dalton Williams might be in the hospital. Now his poor parents are planning a funeral, and dealing with an immeasurable loss.

The conversation isn't about banning firearms, it's about how we can make sure that people aren't so able to reach for them in the heat of an argument, or acquire many when they plan something terrible.

You are right, people DO kill people, the access to firearms just makes it a lot quicker and easier.

RIP Dalton Williams.

Wonder if it was a video game? Why even put that in the headline, tilts it toward a paintball related event. Could have been a game of chess and the result would have been the same.

No child should have access to guns, now two families are destroyed.

There are 3 or 4 other countries in this world who have stricter gun laws than the US. Every single one of those countries has more deaths every month than the US has had this year.

I agree that we need to have a more strict background check on those who are a contributing citizen and plan on purchasing or carrying a weapon. But, that will never happen. It's similar to government assistance. We have illegal residents in this country who are receiving more then they deserve because the background checks are lacking.

I have my permit to carry and I know the rules and laws surrounding that responsibility. A 16 year old has no right to have access to a shotgun for 1. 2, where were the parents? 5:30 in the afternoon and there was no one around except for a friend/"Witness"?

Tragic loss and an avoidable one at that.

What I don't get is why the kid just stood there as his "buddy" pulled the trigger and then proceeded to look for and load a round and pull the trigger again. There's alot more to this story than what one witness can say. It's just sad though and my heart goes out to both families.

Freedom comes at the cost of bad decisions. How much of either society will tolerate related to the gun issue is coming to a head. When body counts of children stack up this high this fast, action is required and should enage the whole of society not just a particular interst group.
If there’s even one thing that we can do to prevent any of these events, we have a deep obligation—all of us—to try

The argument over paintball was terciery in this instance and only a catalyst.

Good discussion
