Tampa Bay Damage decides to pull out of NPPL, and only play PSP

From Social Paintball:

Quote:
After multiple successful seasons playing both U.S. professional paintball leagues, Tampa Bay Damage has announced that they will not be playing in the NPPL this season.

The team will instead focus all of their efforts on playing the PSP.

Joey Blute, Manager, posted the following statement on the teamís Facebook page:

Quote:
We have decided to discontinue playing in the NPPL. We will instead put all of our energy into winning in the PSP. We want to thank our fans and sponsors for all of the support.
Sources tell us that a handful of the Tampa Bay Damage players will be playing in the NPPL and CXBL as free agents with other teams. We are told that while they are free to guest on teams in other leagues, the PSP is the top priority and will dictate any decision making with regards to scheduling and practices.

Our sources have also stated that Damage is not the only team that will be foregoing play in the NPPL. There are at least three other teams that will not be playing in the NPPL pro division that played in it last season.

With Damage and other pro teams deciding to leave the NPPL, albeit for this season, what will this void mean for the quality of play in the NPPL pro bracket? Better yet, what happens to those pro spots?

I think people are forgetting you have the new Trade My Gun Pro NPPL team as well as Crush filling a pro spot. So they could lose another team and still be even.

but the quality of play will be greatly diminished. If top teams like Damage are replaced with up-and-comers like Crush, so what if it's the same number of teams.

Didn't Damage get the short end of the stick in Vegas to prevent them from finishing NPPL series champs? Something about putting Phoenix Contact in XSV's bracket instead of Heat so that XSV could take the series title easier...

there was definitely a scheduling issue at Vegas, but i don't think it was a large enough issue to do with this decision. I think it boils down to long term vision for the team. When you are practicing 7man, you aren't practicing for 5man style of play.

And for millenium, really didn't have enough players with enough available time off work to travel overseas.

They all start somewhere. Who cares. Many up and coming teams have created some great play and in fact rose to the top quickly. The name of the team is irrelevant. The players skills make the game. Out with the old, in with the new.

It would make since if they worked there way up the ranks like most of the other po team and not jump from a mediocre d3 team to a "pro" team

All those accusations about social being behind this are complete bull****. Just from being around Damage at events you can tell the team didn't care as much about NPPL as they do PSP. Only valken paint at events didn't help either. I watched them at Chicago last year run out of their GI supply and when they had to shoot valken on Sunday they had to deal with the same rocks as everyone else.

As a 2k8'r, I'd expect your sarcasm senses to be refined by now.

I am disappoint.

Join date makes no difference. I could make an account tomorrow and fall into the 2k13...

As for accusations of social being behind this, don't start rumors or claim something until you have facts to back it.

I feel like misunderstandings/miscommunications are half the reason why NPPL and social aren't getting along so great right now. Very interesting to see damage make this move though.

I did have one thing I wanted to ask though, do any of the PSP and NPPL events fall on the same date? I could see that being an issue with big teams.
