Carbs and/vs. a caloric defict

Everyone always talks about how carbs are bad for you because they break down into sugars that your body doesn't burn (aka when you are sleeping) but if I am eating a caloric deficit and getting all of my macro/micro nutrients, does it matter if I eat carbs?

Please don't flame, this is my first cut.

Thanks

I just finished a 2 month cut, for the first month I drank a 700cal chocolate milkshake from McDonalds. Had a 1/2lb cheeseburger with fries everyday except the very last week.

The results from this were similar to the low carb cuts I've done in the past. So IMO, it doesn't make that much difference for the regular joe, but if your competing I would definitely carb cycle. Definitely enjoyed this cut more than the low carb ones.

Just my anecdotal experience.

Also want to note, every body is different.

Not at all. Carbs are absolutely necessary during a proper slow diet.
Continue eating at a caloric deficit, even incorporate a carbohydrate refeed every 1-2 weeks to elevate leptin levels.

only reason i'd participate in a low carb diet again is for keto, but other than that, I'd stick to a caloric deficit. My lifts would suffer and I felt as if I always had no energy. Also look into Intermittent Fasting, recently started trying it and it is working greatly.

some strength loss will happen on a cut, its almost impossible to retain 100% of the strength you gained through your bulk, without special recovery supps of course.

also you can reduce the chance of your strength gains going to **** by only cutting carbs to a moderate level

im still several months away from cutting but i dont plan to cut my carbs under 100g a day throughout the entire cut. as of right now, im thinking ~100g carbs on off days and 150-200g of carbs on lifting/busy work days

My cutting macros:

215-225 P
65-70 F
~250 C

Point being. Carbs are muscle sparing and workout fueling. Not going contest prep, not on a crash diet and I don't think consuming 300+ grams of protein will really have any benefit over 215-225 in terms of muscle preservation. I'd rather have an adequate amount of carbs than an overabundance of protein.

Carbs, and even type of carbs, aren't inherently the problem.

Why such low protein? That's lower than my bulking protein...

.8g per lb of bw is all that's needed. I'll cite when I get home.

I think that number varies from person to person, black people for example don't need as much protein to see similar results.

Is that a claim backed in anecdote or research?

That study states in the opening paragraph that it's in relation to optimal gains. When bulking I aim for .8-1g/lb BW, just like that said.

But for cutting...especially when your carbs are even lower than usual. Just saying.

In the paragraph right under the pic of the hulk, it states that .82g/lb is "very safe", be it for bulking or cutting
