Square O-rings
So, McMaster-Carr sells square o rings and I was wondering if anyone has used them in place of the bolt sail o ring. Since that guy is so prone to leaking, it makes sense to me to put something that seals better in there. Certainly, I'm not the first one to think of that...

I've used X-rings for the 017's and several different types of bumpers. I've never used or heard of anyone using square o-rings for such an application. You are probably going to create a lot more drag on the bolt.
And honestly, I've never once had a gun that was prone to leaking from the sail (that didn't have a polished can.) That o-ring is exposed to more friction and wear, but whenever one leaks, I replace it and it works fine for the rest of the season. It's the 014 tophat and tail o-rings that have always been more finicky on some guns.
You can always try using a bit of Dow 55 on that location. Or buy a new pack of o-rings, maybe you got a bad batch.

I'm, definitely, suspecting that I've got a bad batch of o-rings.
I bought a BW bolt and stuck it in, and my o-ring problems were solved. The next step will be to switch out the o rings on the BW bolt and put it on the old bolt. If that works, I'll start switching them one at a time and figure out which o-rings are the problem.
On a side note, does anyone have any tips on switching out the internal o-ring on the top hat? I seem to be unable to do it, myself, and I always have to ask my wife to do it (she's got smaller fingers).

Do you have an o-ring pick? Dental picks or any picks you can find at a hardware store work great for troublesome o-rings

Not a great video but you get the idea. I tried to explain it in words, but after reading what I typed about pinching the o-ring and sticking a finger in the tophat and guiding it in to place, it sounded really awkward.

I see that video, and it just makes me hate you just a little. I swear I've tried to do the exact same thing... At least I know I'm not missing some secret handshake.

Takes years of practice and stabbing yourself in the finger with an o-ring pick.
