Just picked up this Ion...

Hey everyone,

We I just picked up this ion. Can anyone tell me what all it has on it? I know the barrel says "Redz" on it. The condition looks a little beat up, I would probably give it a 7 out of 10. What do you guys think?

I apologize if this should be in a different area.

It came with this hopper as well, will this work well with it or should I plan on purchasing something else?

Also, the trigger feels really loose? Is this normal? (My first electric gun)

Okay. From my reading those are both good upgrades. Any other tips for me? Don't really know too much at all about this.

watch a youtube video of how to disassemble...its pretty easy once you try it.

I would check to see if the bolt is stock and if it is I would upgrade it

and probably put laser eyes in and a qev while its apart

looks like you got a stock ion with a ccm feedneck, cp trigger & redz barrel.

read the stickies and depending on what you have internally, consider:

sp QEV
techT L7 bolt
a bob or semi-bob (at this point only deadlywinds has a semi-bob)
a better barrel system -- so you can paint-bore match!

..and there's a whole lot more you can look into...but these 4 should get you started..

hopper is okay for the time being -- but if you have extra $$ look into a rotor, a Z2, a halo v35, a halo too at the very least..

enjoy and be safe!

Okay thanks. I'll probably take it apart on Thursday and look at it. What is a bob? Is the redz barrel decent?

BOB stands for bolt-out-back. There's some aftermarket bodies/kits for the Ion that lets you pull the bolt out without having to take the frame off.

The Redz barrel should be fine. There's negligible differences between barrels these days other than control bore length and porting.

EDIT: Also looks like you have a Critical Pro-pin (instead of stock trigger pin).

When you have it apart check for a small spacer on the trigger pin/bolt,if its not there(typical) you can make one from some micro hose, this will elliminate side play and looseness, also there is a trigger adjustment for the magnet return under the trigger and guard, this controls magnet return force
check this site out, best site ive found for Ions

Okay thanks you guys. Another question, don't know if this belongs in another section or not. But is there somewhere that would give me like an electronic 101??

What is it you would like to know?

How to set the settings on your board?

Give this a read through, the Ultimate Ion Compilation Sticky will have everything you would possibly need and/or want to know about an Ion.

If you have a questions, feel free to give us a holler. Welcome to our little corner of PbNation.

Upgrades depend on how much you want to put into it. A new board, bolt, qev, eyes and regulator would max it out but they cost alot all together. If you play rec and want to invest over time this would be a nice option. There are newer lower priced guns that will probably shoot about the same and might be more efficient.

Well I guess I'm more looking to understand the modes, what they do? And what to use when just playing? Just the basics before getting too much into adjusting them.

Dwell is the setting that determines how long the solenoid is allowing air to pass through to fire the paintball. Adjusting this can help allow your to make your marker more consistent.

Rate of Fire (ROF) determines the delay period between each cycle, therefore capping the max amount of cycles per second.

Firing Modes (Not 100% sure they're in this order):
1. Semi Auto: Your typical "fires as fast as your fingers can move" up to the capped speed (determined by your dwell and ROF settings).
2. Rebound: When firing at a consistent speed, the board automatically increases the firing rate to be higher than what you are firing at (basically fires more than one paintball per trigger pull).
3. Burst 3: Fires 3 paintballs/trigger pull. (10 bps Max)
4. Full Auto: Hold down the trigger and your ion automatically cycles. (10 bps Max).

I prefer using Semi-Auto to prevent overshooting that rebound can create and I've always found 3-Shot Burst and Full-Auto to be a bit of a hassle (some fields do not allow full-auto to be used).

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but what are some good BOB systems that would be efficient for the ION.

Okay sounds like I am going to play in semi.... Thank you that was helpful.... I am going to read through the instruction manual today to make sure I know how to set it all up and everything and tomorrow ill take it apart.

I don't think the bob systems are worth the money. Unless u can find a cheap one in the bts section they cost almost as much as the gun is worth.

On the line it can be a crooked cut macroline, get some new macroline and cut it straight should fix that leak, if not check the oring inside the macroline fitting as well. And the leak in the barrel is most defiantly a oring. Heres a Smart Parts Ion "bible" lol Anything you ever need to know about it is right on this page. (http://www.gogowners.com/showthread.php?t=3216This) You might have to register but It shows you all the problems and solutions for that marker. Hope I helped! Good Luck
