I'd say when I first started super manning, I'd slide the butt of the tank on the ground (judging by the fact that my JT tank cover got destroyed). However, with practice i don't think that happens anymore, or very little.

When I do my supermans my gun hand is typically landing with the back of my hand on the ground, and I try to keep the barrel slightly raised, but the way I do them, it's a soft landing for the tank, but sometimes it is on my forearm.

To do a good superman dive, you must first commit fully and do not be afraid. I have a teammate who was scared to death at superman dives because of this. He would always hit knees first and then flop on the ground. Potentially hurting himself or damaging his gun. My technique is to hit the ground with your elbows and waist at the same time and make sure your tank is laying on your elbow and aiming your gun up (this is how I protect my equipment). Hope this helps.
