Who cares why? Why don't you use an auto cocker? Why do you ask stupid questions? Just like EVERYTHING else in the world. Personal preference.

Why do people still shoot the Colt M1911? 'Cause it's classic and effective.

What I wouldnt give to have a cobalt eclipse cocker with a slide trigger again.....when you could get almost 2000 shots off a 68/45, you knew you had a winner.

Subterfuge nailed it. Autocockers are the Harley Davidson of paintball. They can be customized and tuned to your liking. In the days when Autocockers and Automags ruled the land, you were hard-pressed to find two Autocockers that were identical, if they weren't fresh out of the box. Custom milling, custom anodizing, chromed parts--these things were works of art.

Customizing and upgrades where what brought paintball shops into the golden age of paintball. The upgrades had better margins and many a player had $20-50 burning a hole in their pocket that they were quick to spend on an upgrade.

Over 20 years, I've bought dozens of paintball guns--and I still have nearly all of them. Out of all those guns my custom autococker is my favorite, because it is mine. It was built for me. It has personality. It has soul.

To me, Autocockers were the pinicle of high-end markers other than Angels back when I first started playing.

This is my first post paintball related in 10 years. Call me pure old school, I know almost nothing of the paintball scene of today. I only recently started looking at playing again.

Back in the early 2000's I was brainwashed into hating autocockers by my local field owner. Well I bought a autococker anyways cause I found a 99 for cheap and wanted to resell it to make a buck. Yes I did resell it after playing with it a couple times... only to buy a 01 black magic. Sold my minimag with booyah trigger, sold my arsenal of electro-blowbacks, sold everything except the BM and my trusty custom 98.

I had found "the" marker for me, it's hard to explain but it just felt right in my hands. This marker was satisfactory in all aspects, it was light, balanced, right size, accurate and felt/ sounded so smooth. Sure it couldn't spray paint fast like my electros but during this time paint was so freaking expensive ($140-$160 /case) that it was just stupid to waste any of it. The BM was able to achieve that one shot one kill like no other gun I ever put my hands on.

It didn't end there, the bug caught on to my other team mates essentially ending a long era of autococker hate brought on by the field owner. Shortly after I was teaching my fellow field mates the art of how to time, tweak and fine tune this precise instrument. There was just more to talk about in autocockers that any other marker of the time.

Unfortunately I had to sell my beloved BM when I quit paintball. 10 years later, I would buy it back any day... in fact if I start playing again, it will likely be with exactly that, a Black Magic Autococker.

To answer the question "why shoot an autococker?" Because that is the right marker for me.

why simple because cockers and autmags have a SOUL every one is different
and they shoot different every day, they are like a women depends on which side of the bed she got out of this morning, but you love her all the same whn she`s bad you hate her ,but when she`s good it`s sexual

^^Shooting differently every day is a sign that you don't really know how to tune them, lol. Mine work the same every time I use them -- ultra consistent, ultra-quiet, and ultra-deadly.

I agree that they have a soul though.

I shoot one not because of the nostalgia thing (I'm 21, there really is no "nostalgia" for 'Cocker shooters my age), but moreso because I've seen what they've done & CAN do. Sure, you can have the newest Geo/Ego/Axe/_____. But, if you shoot the guy with one of those guns using your 'Cocker, you's a bad motha______.

Lots of good points here. Personally I like the ability to add endless parts and tuning, the pure mechanics of it. Nothing neatly tucked away inside the gun, just a bunch of stuff bolted to the outside to make it work. Function over form. The new guns are as good as they can be made, hence they all look exactly the same. Perfect but no personality. Using them kinda makes the game more of an experiance for me. Kinda like taking a drive to the grocery store in a new mustang versus an old muscle car. The new one is better in every possible way (comfort, power, fuel milage, reliabilty, noise etc) but driving the old one makes a boring trip an adventure.

I like the sound of it, that puh-schick every time it fires. It does take bit of getting used to the timing though. With cockers the bolt fires then the mechanics move, I didn't like it because I could never get used to the flow of the gun. I have seen people make open bolt versions of cockers, not sure how well they work.
