If you had to choose..

If you had to choose between a chance at chasing your dream of going somewhere in PB or moving to Montana to take a sous chef job that would be well worth it as well as beneficial to becoming a chef. If I move I loose the chance to chase the dream, but if I do, I get a chance of a life time.. Not saying the same opportunity wouldn't come up again sooner or later.. Sous chef jobs are a dime a dozen.. PB isnt

It's a terrible economy, not a time to chase the dream imo. Take the real job, cheers.

I deff need a job to support my playing. I have one now and have no problem finding work.. Like allot of people in this sport, I want to grow with it and go as fare as I can. It's been my dream for 8+ years now, and I can't amagin doing anything els until I try, until I know I can't follow it. Pretty much why i moved to Portland, to be in a area that has every thing I need to do my dream. I will always have cooking to help me financially; and if all attempts fail, I'll have cooking to fall back on. That's why I don't want to just give up and set in to a life style Of being a full time chef.. I want to look back ten years from now and say "I did my dream, I did something that not allot of people can say they did". But I have never asked a pro what he did to get where they are in the sport today.

I would chase the dream. You only live one. I wish I would have chased the dream a little more.
Remember, if you do choose to chase the dream, don't burn any of your bridges in leaving.

i think it really comes down to simple economics you know... if you can afford to take some time chasing your dream then brother i say go for it. BUT...if you cant than you gotta get that $$ man. Take it from a baller who has been around for a while. but if you dont chase then you will just regret it down the line. kinda a damned if you do damned if you dont situation. just pray on it bro. god has a weird way of pointing us in the right direction even if its not the one you thought you would take. good luck.

A college professor once asked his class a question about career choices. If money was not an issue, what would you do with your life? What ever that is would be a good clue on what will make your life more fulfilling. I have had a lot of jobs over my 40 years. I live for this sport, but I found great satifaction in working my current job. Balance is important, but finding what makes you happy is key! If your not chasing a dream, then what the hell is life for?

The other thing to consider is IF you do make it, will it still be your passion? I know the easy answer is yes, but I have seen a lot of talented folks go into something because they loved it... Ie art, music, etc only to see that having it as a career removed some of the magic from it. Once a paycheck is tied to it, it can take on a life of its own and it's no longer about doing what you want and more about doing what has to be done for the job.

That said, if you do have the passion to keep it as a career and still fulfilling and CAN afford the time to put the cooking career on hold for a bit, then it may be worth a shot. Just be honest with yourself and make sure to examine all the pros and cons in depth before deciding.

Thank you all for your info and support! I spend the majority of my time thinking about how I can make this happen. For the most part I need to finish culinary school and get my associates degree, once I have that in hand, I will be able to run a kitchen, be a manager, Sous Chef, Chef and or anything along those lines. I mainly want to shoot for being the manager, so it would allow for a flexible schedule to practice and go to tourneys... I really do feel like I can make this happen. All I really need is a chance, a door to open, and when it does ill be ready.

I like Cali, don't get me wrong.. But I wouldn't live there by choice.. I'm going to culinary school at Le Cordon Bleu in Portland as well.. Just joined the divisional Seattle thunder team and gonna play with them for awile and do school and work. It sounds like allot, but the way things are working out between them all its gonna all work out just fine. Plus now I can be around a pro team and that's a good start I think. Now just gotta ballence it and keep on point.
