You're contradicting yourself. Not that forming a logical argument has ever been a strong point of yours. Even Joe can't argue that the football is better, so he goes by the intensity of the following. Funny you bring up the church. If your same logic were applied to religion then radical islam would be the best. After all, people are willing to die for it, they are so much more intense.

I normally go to football games with watching football being the primary purpose, yes.

I put off a paper, so I'll probably be up until at least 3:30 working on it. Then I'll sleep for a few hours and work on finals for the rest of the weekend.

Not really. That's not an apples to apples thing. Apathy on one end versus fanaticism on the other. I've been places where football is just a phase of the year. I've seen Big 10 football in person and lived in other places. It's a lot easier for me to see and know yalls take on football than it is for you to understand mine and that's pretty apparent. I've been to NFL games, I grew up following pro football. College is way more exciting and the games mean a ****ton more. Its a 365 thing, not just a seasonal one. It's treated almost like a religion but you can measure whose gods are the best each fall. Its generational. Your grandpa went to X, your dad and mom went to X, you are going there. There is a reason most NFL stadiums hold way less than the big colleges and its significance goes way beyond a game. You will never have that kind of infusion into personal lives and culture with pro sports, not to that width and depth. I realize as you wipe the food bits off your chubby chin you are thinking this is impossible and people here are stupid. I don't care. And your religious metaphor sucks like you do.

You have no idea what it's like to have every aspect of your life infused with the game. You have no idea what it's like to have the school you choose to go to define you as a person and how you are treated. You have no idea what its like for state schools to not be viewed as second class. You just don't get it. Eat a cheeseburger and keep watching your pats. I dont care if you ever experience or know football here.

Really? Because we all saw you grow up loving Texas on here and only fairly recently went to A&M and all the sudden A&M was ingrained into you since birth? Please. If we were to take you at your word, the University of Texas was ingrained into you, it would be impossible to turn your back. But no, you decided to go somewhere else and that was that.

It was. It was a really big deal when I decided to go to A&M instead. My extended family were all Ags but my parents went to UT, the blacksheep. It was not a random change, yall just didnt see it. I never actually applied to texas as I have said time and again. But it was a big decision. Some of my neighbors, like old couples even, wont talk to to me anymore. Some of my friends won't really hang out with me either. Last time I went to the place I used to work, it ended in a profanity laced exchange and at the root of it was a football discussion. It wasnt a small decision at all but I knew which school I wanted to be at as I got older.

There was a lot more around it and if you actually understood what I meant instead of...well...not, it would have made more sense. It means more to the people. Not each game being more significant to the season or something. God Kansas sucks. This is why Weis made your team practice acting like it won on a FG at practice.

When Alabama lost to A&M their season was...not over?
When Alabama lost to LSU their season was...not over?
When LSU lost twice before losing the national title?
When UF won with one loss?
etc, etc, etc

Let me clear this up for the hard of thinking.
If Auburn had lost that NC game, there would have been people who held onto that heartache and misery until they died. It would be a lifelong source of hurt pride and despair. When Oregon lost it, people shrugged and loaded another bowl and maybe started thinking about basketball season or what to do that weekend.

I know what you are saying Bender, but what you are describing is not a good thing.
Yes, I am about to go there, the people you described in post 348 are the reason things like Penn State happens. People who hate a long time friend or neighbor just because he goes to a different school or roots for a different school should be quickly escorted to the gas chamber. Op Op Op Oppa Auschwitz Style.

There are also a lot of good things that come from it. I can't help if you choose to see one side of it. There's no question that Penn St (and similar cases) was wrong and Ive been pretty clear with my opinion on that. In a nation like ours where you can't possibly have a more polarized, distant, and fractured culture like ours and one that is basically without a common American experience anymore, having something unifying that brings people together is great if not needed.
