This is a scenario I often find myself in when i'm at a local field.

The paint sucks. A lot of it is fairly uniform, but there's enough oversized ones in the bag that makes underboring or bore matching difficult at the chrono.

For example, over the weekend most of my paint was matched to a 0.682. I take it to the chrono and shoot a few rounds. A lot in the 270s, but then a couple over 300.

What should you do in this scenario? The gun has detents so the ball won't roll out off the barrel if you just overbore all the paint. Maybe using a 0.687 would work? I'd have to raise my HPR, but I could deal with that.

The goal was to try and get my gun chronoing higher...like 290s with this paint. Suggestions?

685 would probably do it.

Thanks! I forget which insert I have (684 or 685) and give this a go.

I checked out this paint again last night and most of it would roll through a 684 insert, but there were still more than a few that would get totally stuck.

I had to bump up to a 689 before I could get everything I tried to roll through. I hate this winter paint

I usually use .689 during the season

Stick with the .689 then and you should be good.

When I've got inconsistent paint like that I find that .689-.693 works best for consistency over the chrono.. I used to just rock my .695 all the time and it shot great- but then I noticed that if I do end up with a barrel break my exalt swab's rubber end doesn't work very well due to the hugeness of the bore.. It's definitely designed for much smaller diameters.

I'm going to try and do some tests at home this weekend. Seems like the 689 is the way to go. I've also got a 691 and 693. Might try those too.
