When you accelerate/decelerate the separation forces between the spider gears and the side gears increases the clutch loading and "lock it", though around turns it disengages a drive axle to compensate for different wheel speeds.
LSD's are torque controlled essentially

Not what I'm refering to, the original one isn't a LSD, it an actual locker that automatically disengages when you neeed to turn.

Never heard that sound in my uncle's '65 Shelby, then again the stock exhaust in those cars will set off car alarms so it probably muffled any locker noise.

DC ranked number 1? I can confirm this. Although I probably contribute it. Every ****ing time I go there I get lost. Northern VA drivers are pretty bad. We drive really aggressively for sure.
