Edit: i have one more question. Is it necessary to install any antivirus software on my macbook? I know that its hard to get virus's (or at least thats what i've been told) but i just want to be safe.
To answer your first question, yes. You can transfer any media you've got from your SD to a CD/DVD.
-insert SD card.
-check desktop for picture of SD card (double click)
--in the new window find the files you want to xfer.
---click/drag them to your desktop
---let these copy
--insert blank CD/DVD
-Select files on your desktop you want to burn to the disk, choose file at the top, then burn.
What does that mean? backup in time machine, and backup often. And be careful with what you download.
