What exactly does the solenoid do?

I recently blew out my solenoid according to the guys at my pro shop. I know what it looks like but what exactly does it do?

It controls the air to your bolt or ram depending on your gun which effectively and in simplest terms is what moves your bolt forward and backward. It gets more in depth that that but it is the engine of many many guns these days

basically, its a little electric valve that routes air back and forth to move the bolt system.....www.zdspb.com has a good write up on what lots of parts are and how they work.

its kinda hard to blow one, what gun do you have? what happened? and what did you do to make it happen? and where is it leaking from?

they're kind of expensive so its a good idea to make sure its not the noid, however most markers have some sort of seal near the noid that can make people think the noid is blown when its just an o-ring that needs to be changed instead.

Its what the heart is to your body. Its the life of the gun. They are fairly expensive depending on the marker you own the cheapest being around $30. Most expensive I have seen is upwards of $150 for a PE marker.

Like what the guys above said, it's a valve that opens and closes for a certain amount of time in MS (your dwell setting) and can be adjusted however you like. Nowadays, the high end guns have more control over the solenoid such as the Ego11 and the Geo3. On the Ego11 you can adjust the foreward and backward stroke of the bolt giving you much more control on customizing how you would like your gun to perform. But, having all this lee-way can lead to more issues later on. It has it's pros and cons.

80% of the time a pro shop says your noid is blown........it isn't. It really depends on you gun type though. I'd go to the forum for your particular gun and search for a similar problem. If you find nothing post your issue up and get some info.

Many noids are serviceable and can often be rebuilt.
