Doesnt matter. Not all guns need that pressure of a snug barrel to paint under bore. .689 is too large for the majority of paint today. Throw your freak kit on there with a .684 or .680 and try again.

Ah. I thought I read that he had a kit. .689 can work if your paint is near that size.

Right now it looks like I could probably just buy a smaller bore one piece for less than a a/c threaded back would run me, at least at the local shops. Looks like I have a combination of things to try out at the chrono
now.

Well I'd honestly buy the back if you have the inserts and tip. Unless its a cp barrel you're better off paying 45 bucks and getting your barrel set up.

Do note, the stock Axe is made to be tournament ready right out of the box (heavier bolt, higher pressure, more consistent despite multiple variations).

When using the Boss bolt, keep the following in mind, as the lighter bolt will be much more finicky:

ONE: Underbore. If you're paint is boring at .685, use a .682 or .679 bore barrel

TWO: With the boss bolt, DO NOT adjust at the chrono with the backcap. Turn the back cap out about 1 & 1/2 turns and LEAVE IT GO. Unless you plan on really tuning out your gun, that will be a fine setting. Adjust with the OP of the gun (turning the ASA)

(SECONDARY NOTE: When changing the pressure, you will need to fire 1-3 shots for it to settle in to the new setting, it doesn't just push air back into the tank ;P )

Thanks pirate,.the thing is, with the back cap at 1.5 my OP had to be up above 180 to get to even 270fps. Could this be a product of over boring, so to speak.?

Its possible. Thats why you need to test again with a proper under bore so if thats not it, we can eliminate it as a variable.

Ok, I don't think I can get to a chrono until early next week. I'll let you know what happens then. Thanks

Over boring wouldn't cause the shoot down though.

Agreed, but still, my statement stands, you will almost always have lousy performance with a light aftermarket bolt unless you underbore so that it treats every ball almost the same. Especially so with the boss.

Shoot down is either tank reg or relay, especially if he already cleared the poppit and orings.

I do agree with you that you'll have better performance. But not lousy. I used the stock barrel with the boss bolt for a while. Still saw good consistency and with crap paint that was about 685. Not trying to be a jerk man so sorry if it comes off that way..

If he's already cleaned the poppit
I'm guessing you're right
Tank, relay or (I doubt it) solenoid.

Well, the tank I've been using is a brand new ninja 68/45, so I doubt that's it. I have 3 other tanks I could try out to eliminate that variable though. It looks like all my o rings are good, I took it all apart, checked and lubed it and put it back together. I sort of wish it was the tank since ninja is just a 35 min drive from me, that would be a faster turn around than getting my relay serviced, I assume.

I'll grab a back for my freak and give .679 or something a shot too.

I played with the Axe stock barrel for about 3 months before upgrading. HORRIBLE consistency, like +/- 20-30 at the chrono. Underboring solved that problem.

You were probably shooting really small paint, or maybe your stock barrel has a defect.

Or really ****ty paint.

+/-20-30 is what I had going, it would be great if that was just due to overboring, but I'd like to think it would perform better than that. I checked the paint I was using against my freak inserts, the stuff I used earlier in the day was about .682 and the stuff I used later would have been great at .679.

That is normal. If you are lowering pressure, you have to shoot the marker in order to have the gauge register. The adjustment is happening behind the regulator. So for example: 180psi, you lower it however many turns, shoot shoot shoot shoot, gauge should read 150psi. When you increase the pressure the gauge is effected imidiately and the gauge displays the raise in psi.

So don't worry about that : ) if it is raising even after your psi is set. This is called "reg creep" sorry to state the obvious, but is your bolt spring snapping into place? If it isn't, it's backwards.

When I had my axe, I ran 160psi, 4.5ms of dwell, 1.5 turns out on cap, 2drops of oil, guerrilla myth2 reg.
