Why does hollywood dumb down paintball?
the past decade has seen a few movies include paintball scenes (failure to launch, and a few horror flicks that no one remembers) and a few have featured paintball (blackballed, and paintball[another awful b-horror film].) Now yet another film is coming out this valentines day called "This Means War" where Reese Witherspoon is dating two dudes and they go on a date paintballing with crap guns, on a busted up field that looks to be made of cardboard and pallets, throwing paint "grenades" that explode 50 gallons of paint. why cant we get some real representation.

Would you rather it be a scene were someone is being overshot by a gun shooting 30 bps or wiping paint off of them and continue to play?
That'll be more realistic than the scene in the movie.

i think that the most accurate presentation was in failure to launch against the "devil babies" but even then, the ballers were depicted as these a-hole national champs who played rec-ball on the weekends to pone noobs.

I think the only way you are going to get a "legit" paintball scene is if the make a blockbuster movie on how a pro team started from nothing and became the best team in history. Even then, the actors are going to have to shoot slower so the camera can pick up the paint being shot. And in failure to launch i thought it was funny how they had to take their masks off on the field so they could talk to each other, when anyone that plays paintball knows that you dont need to do that.
Action and combat scenes are exaggerated. there are pyrotechnic guys that use chemical and such to get the desired effect. also other action scenes are choreographed to make them look better.

i know the "jesters" movie was kind of along those lines but it was total 80's woodsball. pretty accurate woodsball but still silly.

So we should make a movie about Vicious. I'd be all for that.

These people obviously haven't played paintball. If you told Ollie Lang to direct a paintball movie, it'd be pretty awsome. Legitimately awsome.

i think that if it was advertized at the same level as the common rom-com or action flick it would at least draw in anyone who has ever played paintball in there life. then there would be all those people who would be saying stuff like..."i could do that." it could even draw in a flood of new interested players.

also with the quality of cameras being utilized in hollywood i dont think there would be any problem with the game being filmed. and as we have seen in a ton of recent movies like clash of the titans, pirates of the caribbean, 300, and transformers; slow-mo is in! those scenes where you can see every splinter blasted across the screen by an explosion, how much different would it be to film a mid player knee sliding into a bunker, ripping his lane.

A movie could be done. There is no doubt about that. I think its more of an interest thing. people would need to relate. I think inorder for interest to be there, it may have to be in 3D.

The problem is that movie cameras are HUGE, so you can't get fps footage that looks good on the big screen, and footage where the cameraman is near the shooter just isn't the same. They literally shoot one shot at a time, one scene at a time. (not in order either). So a short clip like that could take days or weeks on scene to get all the close ups, and everything.
BTW that was a real paintball field where that was shot, and the extra's were real players. The production team did add stuff to make it look cooler (like the posts he ran across), but to say it was a "busted up" field is just bashing on a REAL field that is used for paintball today.
Movies are fake, so don't get all bent out of shape when the main character doesn't wear a mask... And Tippmanns are not "crap guns" you may not like them, but they work great... There is a reason they are the MOST VOLUME SELLING GUN EVER in paintball. They work really well, and they shoot paint... And don't cost an arm or a leg (or both).
If you figure out a way to film paintball better, then maybe the film producers will see it and use your technology, but until now, there hasn't been anyone out there capturing super high quality footage that you can see the paint flying out of the barrel and hitting other players in a fps that could be useable in a major motion picture.
3d is just a digital processing that is done after the film is shot. That is why there are so many bad 3d films, as they take a regular film and just make it 3D to get more money from it in theaters. The good 3d movies are made FOR 3d. That is rare.

I understand how 3D technology works, I am just saying that in order to get the interest of people that may not care about paintball, you may have to utilize it.

That's a little pessimistic. We could make at least a B film. Personally I have access to Final Cut Pro and HD cameras along with access to advising form a professional videographer. I just don't have the time but was more talking about how they are kind of the Cinderella story that was mentioned. Don't sell our nation members short we come from all walks of life.

If you can do it, then more power to you. I am just saying that you really want an explosion of people getting interested in in this sport by means of a movie, then the movie cannot suck in any way. That is just my opinion.

i think, in the end what it will really take is for paintball to be broadcast to the mainstream. and for that to happen, paintballers need to stop bickering about what league or rule or player is better and to unify. if we had one huge league where every tourney turned out 3000 players plus fans in each town or region, the media would be forced to look at us and say, "now what is going on over here?" and with valid media attention comes curiosity, interest, and hopefully we, as paintballers, would ast in a way that demanded respect. only thereafter do i think that we would begin to see true paintball depicted on the big screen.

I think something like this would make people want to paintball. I mean it is steps over the unrealistic line.
